Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

A little surprised at the amount of criticism aimed at Lewis in the match thread. That said, some right pricks post bollocks in there. Lewis has been brilliant this season, today it wasn’t his day but he wasn’t poor.
Haaland was far less effective but gets a pass when he doesn’t show up.
Midfield is a problem for us at the moment. Kovacic didn’t have a great match and his ball retention was horrible. Grateful for his two strikes though.
Credit to a resilient Fulham who were stubborn at the back and decent up top. I think they had only conceded 5 this season before today.
We haven’t hit top form yet and we have Bobb, KDB and Ake to come back.
I think it will be a tough season. We may strengthen/ refresh for next season but I don’t expect anything to happen in the next window.

Got the 3 points which is all that matters, but we were lucky not to concede 6-7 today. Eddie was incredible. Defence been piss poor all season

That was awful and law of averages says we are not going to keep getting away with it. Fair play to Fulham but in years gone by, we dispatch that level of opposition with ease. Not so this season.

We don’t have a midfield. Kova two goals, the 2nd of which was fantastic but it should not mask the fact that we have a gaping hole right in the middle. Gundo is either unfit or finished. I hope it’s the former but I’m leaning towards it being the latter given what we are seeing from him. The guy couldn’t move for the last 30 mins.

The two wide men of Grealish and Bernie is fucking terrible. Easy to defend against and offering zero threat. Grealish hasn’t scored in 2024 and Bernie well over 20 games. If I was the opposition manager and saw those two out wide, I would be fucking delighted. I actually think, we might actually be better served if Bernie and Grealish moved central. Bernie definitely.

Our defence also needs a kick up the arse. I have some sympathy because they are getting little to no protection from the midfield but at the moment, Josko is the only one that is switched on.

Eddie was fantastic today and has certainly won us points.
Summed up perfectly and saves me the time to write similar.

No idea how we won that, completely even game in terms of quality and enacting the gameplan the managers set their teams out to do, if not second best again. We aren’t playing well, we can’t even pass the ball properly under no pressure.

Foden - and in the second half Foden and Lewis - was wide open for passes in the pocket all game and barely anyone passed it to him (/them).

We look like a squad where poor signings and lack of signings have unfortunately finally caught up with us.

In the treble season, only Foden (who didn’t even get injured, he had his appendix out) missed games and he was even back for the run-in where we didn’t have a single injury at all for the final few months.
Since then it’s like we thought that would last forever but it clearly never would.

Thankfully we are picking up points but I can’t say we really clearly deserved three points in any game since Ipswich in August.

I didn’t say they were the better side. I said we were poor, which we were, and that we were outplayed for large parts of the game, which we were. We had 52% possession today which indicates how close it was.
I know what you said, no need to repeat it. I disagree with your assessment and you are factually wrong by saying we were outplayed for large parts of the game. If you'd said 'some' I might have agreed with you. The stats I've seen show we had 58% possession, which indicates it wasn't that close.

Lets put things in perspective here, fulham were sixth had not let in more than 1 goal all season, had just beaten newcastle 3-1 last week and had a week off and despite us playing shit we scored 3 and ground out a win.

Bluemoon response : THE WORLD IS ENDING.
Yeah, but the thing is all those points we keep dropping….oh.

We overcommited by having our CBs so high up the pitch but with none of them contributing anything other than clogging up space.

We are too slow in passing and our passing was very innacurate at times. So we create very few genuine chances.

Our midfielders pretend to defend sometimes. Every one of them really. Even Bernardo can't be bothered tracking back sometimes.

But...

I'm convinced that Pep sort of likes the poor performances early in the season so he can use them as evidence of a continued improvement as the season progresses and us not peaking too soon in the season.
