Please dont take over the hurling like you’ve done to football ;)
Amen, I recall sitting with my MIL (from Donegal) watching them against the Dubs. Always thought she was so nice and placid...didnt even mind her daughter marrying an Englishman...yet got right mouthy about the Dubs.

And yet nobody batted an eyelid at Kilkenny’s dominance in the hurling this century, which was eventually broken.
Kilkenny – 1992, 1993, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015

Dublin’s dominance will be broken.
Kerry are on the rise again. One thing Dublin have done, much like City in the PL, is they now have quite a number of counties playing the same possession based short passing game.

As with Kilkenny in hurling, it’s up to the rest of the country to up their standard to compete.
Dublin has the numbers playing and the finances, of that there is no doubt, but the county board have a very well oiled machine going through the schools upwards and run an amateur sport very professionally.

Well, Dubs won.
Not very impressively and yet still won by 8 points.
Hard to know whether they are in decline or just do enough to beat what’s in front of them.
First half they were not impressive.
They made uncharacteristic mistakes in choices and kicked badly.
Second half they were efficient and did the simple things well.

Mayo next. A sterner test.

Yes I fully agree that it is up to the other counties to up their game and challenge and beat the "top dogs".
Whenever you get a situation like that I am sure there is that bit of jealousy that comes along with it and whilst my MIL (at the time when Dublin were at the start of their dominance) wasn't fond of the Dubs, I think as much of it came from a more political or social angle rather than just the football. The Donegal "culchy" view that everything in Ireland is Dublin centric.
Still, it was still amusing to see my MIL getting so worked up about something.

A lot of people from "down the country" don't like the Dubs ("Jackeens").There is the perception (rightly or wrongly) that they have an arrogance about them, and that they look down their noses at the country folk ("culchies").

I haven't gone in years but when Dublin played other sides in Dublin their fans would get brutal stick on the way to, during the game and on the way from it.
At times it could be bad and would embarrass most decent fans.

Yep; I've been to a couple of Mayo games in Croke Park, and there's definitely a section (tiny, but there nonetheless) of Dublin fans who aren't the nicest. Pity, but there you go. As you said, the vast majority of Dubs are okay, but that minority are pretty vocal.

I worked with a Mayo girl and the banter in the office was great and friendly.
The most stick she got was from those outside Dublin. Dan a Kilkenny lad, a great bloke used to torture her mercilessly. She would give as good as she got but every year was going to be their year, until inevitably it wasn’t.

We used to tease, that the last player alive on that last Mayo winning team must be watching his back since that hex that was placed on the team by some parish priest all those years ago

I think Mayo have as good a chance as any year to beat Dublin in the Semi final, this year. Dublin have been uninspiring in their proficiency so far. They haven’t met anyone you’d have expected to beat them.
Mayo will be a different kettle of fish.

I expect or hope for a Kerry v Dublin final but won’t be overly surprised by Kerry v Mayo.

What's the story with Cluxton? Very strange, the wall of silence around his absence.

Don’t know for sure but the guy is 39 years old.
There are other outfield players choosing to step down too. It’s an amateur sport and they have jobs and families and life.
Maybe, just maybe this is the start of the end of an era. Who knows.

Is the hunger there after 6 in a row and the thoughts of the gruelling training that is really professional level.
