Benzema was probably in the top 1 at his position when it came to link up and bringing the players around him into play, wouldn't be a bad role model for Jesus given his skillset.
Although the positions were somewhat dissimilar - Messi was clearly the best striker at link up.

Too, Ibra - was far more gifted in a quasi-striker/link-up far central role. Probably others.

Benzema was so great in his role that no other world class squad would for a moment consider singing him as their first choice #9 :-)

Jesus is young and may simply be going though a rough patch. But I'm not at all sold on him.

Messi I've always seen as a false 9 tbh.
Ibrahimovic definitely had the skillset but had to be the main man in a way that Benzema didn't.
Plenty wanted to sign Benzema tbf, but you can't sign players from Madrid that they want to keep.

Benzema was... meh. FFP was such that RM wasn't entirely free to sign whomever they wanted.

Sign/keep someone willing to suck it up and just pass to Ronaldo - some passer to Ronaldo who wasn't total shite - someone who wasn't good enough to upset Ronaldo's ego - and there you go - Benzema.

RM weren't willing to release Benzema at a price that any top club were willing to pay - true - but for God's sake - why on earth would any club in need of a true #9 - for a moment even consider Benzema? - massive real-life baggage aside?

When Sergio signed, he'd just had a season at atletico with 20 goals from 32 games, aged 22 nearly 23.

I wish I could imagine Jesus having similar stats for next season when he's at a comparable age but I can't.

Unless he can get his game together it looks like a few seasons of being second choice backup to Sergio and whoever will be Sergio's replacement or he'll move on and maybe first choice somewhere else.

Playing spacemaker for the star striker doesn't work outside Neymar FC.

Just so.

Jesus may prove to be world class/best in the world. But current form suggests otherwise.

We need to sign a young top class striker in case Jesus doesn't pan out - or we need to devise some sort of plan where our side is the best in world football in spite of a top-10 striker.

Jesus is one of the top young talents in world football. Generally, I prefer the performance of the team with him leading the line, despite the individual ability of Sergio. He's had a little bit of a dip in form but nothing that his class will not overcome.

Seriously? Aguero has been magnificent this season. Jesus link up play ok but he needs to Stop going down too easily and stop being caught offside. Needs a goal

he is just nowhere near at present..he may have the potential but it has to be realised at some point and at present he shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11...he isn't even getting in goal scoring positions an this link up play (previously a strong point) has also gone down the toilet.

He needs to get his act together and fast

I agree every word Oldius....every word..I ,m so glad yo ve articulated what i feel. This Manchester City team ,for me, look more Dangerous,Compact and Organised ..when Jesus leads the line. From what ive seen of the lad over in Brazil, together with the pure striker goals he scored before injury....The touch ,movement,Tenacity, Control, willingness to put the team1st..All he needs is a straight run of games to properly get back into his groove....I am quite sure that Manchester City fc will have the finest centre foward in world football playing for them.
Just my opinion ...

Hear ye, hear ye!

He's a mixed bag for me and it might just click, but for about a year now I've not seen much to convince me he'll be a world beater. When was the last time he had a truly good game?

Shaktar? Although I'd argue he's played well in the majority of his games this season, just hasn't been sharp in front of goal.

Of course, forgot about that one. I was hoping he'd kick on afterwards too. Accept that he has had to bide his time due to Aguero being very good so far tho

Yep, the lack of a consistent run can't be helping him, hopefully it clicks for him soon.
