Gabriel Jesus 2018-19 performances

22/23 was when he really started to tear things up and even then only in the goalscoring sense. People forget that even at 23 he was our second choice to Sanchez.

This is often touted but it wasn't the case. We'd have bought both.

On Jesus, we should be concerned. He clearly works hard but he's not cutthroat in the way the truly great strikers are.

To be absolutely ruthless, I'm still not convinced he's that big an upgrade on Kelechi(other than in terms of his workrate and the system we play) but over time Kelechi could eclipse him.

There's not a lot between Jesus and Martial other than one has a crap coach.

He seems a bit intimidated and that needs to be knocked out of him for him to flourish. Pep has done it with Raheem and you can see it coming in Leroy so hopefully next year Jesus matures on the field along the same lines.

After the game last night, some of the comments about Jesus were as usual on BM, just ridiculous.

Blaming him for missing chances, but totally ignoring the fact that this team miss chances galore !

I am sure Pep will be working hard with Jesus , but the fact that City collectively miss plenty of chances will also be occupying him.

>> Right now he's our junior striker and he's a fantastic junior striker.

Who is great at movement, contributes on defense, is a team player, and who's finishing has been extremely poor in spite of great chances for numerous games running.

Meanwhile, just how many years more does Kun have?
Aguero? At least 2 or 3, he's less reliant on his pace than he ever was, depends on what he wants really. Plenty of time for Jesus to learn the game. Look at the difference in Stones and Sterling over the last 2 years at a similar age.

I think Jesus just needs a run of starts tbh, last night was a step up on Bournemouth and Chelsea will more than likely be another step up if he plays. He's not a Dzeko to lurk around the area and poach goals as a super sub/rotation option, he's too involved in the game to sit on the bench for a month and be at 100% coming back in.

In any case his link up play helps the team and his attitude and workrate are fantastic so no need to worry imo.

I really don't see any cause for concern. He's involved in goals, he's creating goals, he's getting chances, he's just not quite burying them.

If he'd picked up 2 more goals he'd basically be neck and neck with Aguero on a per game basis. 2 goals, that's it.

He helps, but for me I want to see him drop the shoulder and look threatening every once in a while. He did it once yesterday on their byline, but that kind of move we need to see more of from him.

The more he plays the more you'll see it.

Agreed with possibly.

At the same time, the preponderance of evidence suggests very much otherwise.

Look - I wouldn't sell Jesus now - unless an extremely good offer came in. But I would absolutely pursue a top class striker to replace Aguero - because Jesus is very unlikely to be up to the task of being our first choice striker (not impossible mind you - but very unlikely).

Is your assertion based on what you see of him play or seeing him in training etc 24/7 ?

I think anyone severely criticizing Jesus are saying Guardiola does not know what he is doing. His link up play, first time passing and his ability to drag defenders around is precisely what Guardiola wants from his CF.
Ok he has missed a few, all CForwards do, but he is 21.
Yes have your opinion, as you did on Sterling, Silva, Delph etc, and be wrong again, We do not have a weak player in this squad, 2 losses in 61 games.

It's bewildering how many of you expect this kid to be world class already. You know how many 21year old strikers are first choice at top clubs in the top 5 leagues? 0. Know how many 21year olds(and below) are first choice strikers at their clubs in the premier league, 1 in Richarlison at Everton and that's only because Tosun has been trash. It's very rare for strikers to hit the top level at a young age, it's a position that requires experience to excel in. Go look at any of the current worlds best strikers and have a gander at what they were up to at Gabby's age for some perspective.

I don't expect him to be world class right now.

I do, however, expect him to miss a cow's arse if I handed him a banjo and asked him to hit it right now unfortunately.

If someone tells him how the offside rule works and if he gains some confidence in front of the goal, he could be a very good striker. Had lots of great touches last night and worked hard as always

He understood the offside rule perfectly when he timed his curving run superbly,to split their defence, prior to receiving the ball that offered him the opportunity to brilliantly pick out,and assist,Mahrez.

Raheem always showed a lot of potential. He lacked confidence in front of goal, but his wing play/crossing compensated.

Though there is perhaps some similarity in terms of not being at top form... there is a differnce.

Raheem wasn't/isn't in our lineup with the primary job of being a scorer - Jesus is in our lineup with just that charge - score!
Fair comment.
