Gael Clichy

Great positional sense, quick, good in the air for his size, and supports attack. We have great competition on both full-back flanks, and this competition for a starting place is bringing the best out of the likes of Clichy,Richards,Zabs and Kolorov. They are all getting plenty of game time which is keeping them sharp. Shows what having an organised defence around you does for a player. Bargain at £7 million!

Quality again.

Kolarov has upped his game too.

This has gone from our recurring problem position to one of our strongest right now.

The best part of his performance was where he made a rare mistake and was caught out of position but shot back with incredible pace and killed off a dangerous attack by the Barcodes. Quality player, some Arsenal fans are perplexed by how good he is for us... it's simply putting a talented player into a proper defensive setup.

This

Never forget when Lennon got behind him and he recovered and blocked the cross. Lennon is rarely handled with that kind of ease. Same with Nani.

And for 7m, what a fucking bargain.

Anyone got any links to Arsenal forums where they talk about him? would be interesting too see what they're saying.
He's in great form. But you cant deny he made alot of simple mistakes for Arsenal that had nothing to do with cover. im talking about dilly dally on the ball. But it was good move for both parties. he needed a fresh challenge

Also I wouldnt say Nasri has been looking like 24 million pound player so far

His value transcends his actual contributions on the pitch (which arent too shabby anyway - he is near the top of the assists chart and has put in some top performances).
Where Nasri has really brought us on however is through his creative partnership with Silva. Our Merlin finally has a play date and it's not coincidental that he is undoubtedly the Prem's best player right now as a consequence.
Samir has also played a big part in our sensational season so far through his presence off the pitch. He's a popular upbeat figure who has improved an already fantastic team spirit.
Lastly, he can also take some of the credit for Clichy's excellence - it's all very well relishing a new challenge but it makes things a lot easier when you've got a mate undertaking that same challenge with you.

All the strikers and big names so to speak, take all the plaudits and are always mentioned.

Clichy apart from on this forum, rarely ever get's any attention and hardly any recognition.

It's been so long where i could say i was happy with our current LB, it's been a place in the team we've never had a strong player or anyone i know has felt confident about.

Now with Clichy, i've never felt more comfortable for as long as i can remember.

Our current back 4 is the best i've ever seen in my generation, for a change now i actually feel like were hardly gonna concede. Unless we make an error or gift a goal cause i believe were that good at the back.

If you take away the players who put the ball in the net and look down the other end of the pitch for a change. in many ways even though we signed the Aguero's and the Silva's, you could say Clichy could be possibly the signing of the summer.

Not saying much. He was always a really nice guy and we all wish him well. Not gonna lie though, he went through 2 years of terrible form which was the reason why he himself left.

Kinda like how we got Vermaelen. Ajax fans thought he was average and every pundit around (even our own Tony Adams) said he wouldn't be good enough. Next thing you know he's one of our best players and scores 7 goals in his first season.

Some players just need a change in environment.

The change of environment will have played it's part i'm sure but i think the overriding factor in Gaels great form is that he is playing with better players in a better system which allows him to have 100% confidence to play his own game. I mean that with no disrespect to Arsenal. Going forward with the likes of RVP, Walcott, Gervinho etc they look very good. And indeed i really rate Vermaelen and Sagna with Schenzy, very solid basis for a top defence.

But Wenger gets it all wrong. As was hinted by a previous poster if you want to challange for honors you simpley cannot have two attacking fullbacks who will inevitably be caught out of position unless you have a top defensive midfielder who will sit infront of two quality centre backs and provide cover for any positional absences. Plus if you are to play that way you cannot just have the one class CB and a dodgey weak link and i'm affraid Mertesacker, Koschelny and Squillaci are all pretty poor.

Wenger and his coaching staff should have gone nuts out to get Cahill from Bolton, M'Vila from Rennes and kept hold of Clichy. A partnership of Cahill and Vermaelen infront of the excellent Schezny with Sagna and a confident Clichy attacking down the flanks with Yann M'Vila providing cover... That would be very tasty indeed and would have had you right up there competing for the title. As it stands i think you will be in a fight to finish in the top 4.
