Game of Thrones (season 8)

I freeze framed the trailer for next weeks episode and the Night King on the back of Viserion is definitely in 0.5 seconds of it. Whether that means he's actually at the Battle of Winterfell or elsewhere is another matter entirely...

It would be highly amusing and would really fuck over the living side if he went to King's Landing, the Lannisters/Golden Company don't have any dragonglass and would get butchered and the lot at Winterfell would have their plans scuppered with the Night King out of range and don't have the numbers to beat the army of the dead. They could probably beat them in that scenario by unleashing both remaining dragons, but unless they know for certain that the Night King is gone, they won't do that.

His army of the dead may be vast in numbers but he has shown himself to be rather good at Stratergy and converting a couple of million of unprepared souls south of the Twins whilst eliminating a good chunk of the prepared army of John + Daenerys seems to make a lot of sense to me.

I have had a working ‘Two Fronts’ theory that involves the Night King sneaking off to King’s Landing to create a second army so he can press the armies of men from the North and South.

That’s not counting how nonchalant everyone is being about sending all the women and children down to the crypt...

The crypt is a giant red herring, after all the blatant set up, in trailers and dialogue, they're actually going to be perfectly safe in the crypt. That's my opinion anyway.

I actually hope that is the case, as otherwise my opinion of the writing for this final season will go down even further.

It's too blatant, they've never really been that blatant before.
Agreed, except with quite a few things in the last few episodes (hence why several mates and I refer to episode 2 as ‘The Bludgeoning’), which makes me worry for the rest of the season. I am hoping things become more nuanced (as much as that can happen with battle episodes) and in keeping with previous seasons in the remaining episodes.

Even if the crypt is a red herring, it was oversold.

I suspect that there is something special about the Starks and Winterfell and this is a double red herring. I have a feeling that the dead in the crypt will indeed be reanimated but whilst initially the defenders of Winterfell think they are initially the Night Kings servants, they, like Uncle Benji, they will be compis-mentis and actually protect the living Starks. There is just so much in the books about the Starks being able to resist White Walkers - including the oft repeated phrase: "There must always be a Stark at Winterfell".
