Zabaletta had a bad game by his standards, he was at fault for at least one goal but to say his general play is poor and he has woeful positioning is a load of bollocks.
I would honestly say Zaba's positioning is the worst of our back 4, he's often too far forwards or too narrow but he is helped massively by Milner and Kompany's constant covering. His general play isn't bad though and his commitment and determination are obviously top class.
I think his reading of the game is generally first class, which is why he was the best right-back in the Prem last season without being super fast or especially big. The two corner goals came from him failing to stop the one player he was marking (and probably shouldn't have been marking, at least after the first one). That's a deficiency, but a very specific one that should be avoidable (put someone bigger/better in the air on opposing teams' biggest aerial threats - like Garcia, for example).
Before the Cardiff game I'd still have said a lot of the time he's too far up the pitch when the opponents attack. Obviously he performed well last season but it's probably worth considering that's the position of lowest quality across the league.
I like Zab a lot just like everyone but I do think he is our most limited first XI player.
