Inter closing on Manchester City man

Inter are focusing on trying to sign Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia, according to the latest reports in the Italian press.

Inter have made a fast start to their summer transfer campaign and it is being reported that they are closing in on a third signing in the form of Javi Garcia.

The Nerazzurri are looking to rebuild after a bruising campaign that saw one of Italy's biggest clubs have to settle for Europa League qualification.

Coach Walter Mazzarri has identified a lack of attacking options, but Inter are looking to address weaknesses all over the pitch.

The free transfer swoop for Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic was a massive coup and Inter seem to be paying close attention to England.

The second signing of the summer appears to be almost complete in Tom Ince, who is conducting contract negotiations with Inter directors.

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport insists that the next signing will also come from English football as Inter continue to court Javi Garcia.

The Spanish defensive midfielder's agent recently denied that a switch to Inter was on the cards, insisting that nobody had made contact with him, but Tuttosport believes that was a smokescreen and Inter are getting closer to a deal.

Garcia has struggled to assert himself at City with Fernandinho and Yaya Toure ahead of him in the midfield pecking order and it has been reported that he would welcome a new challenge.

Javi Garcia has had a brilliant second half to the season.

Only Matic has been a better CDM in this league than Garcia in 2014.

However, I still think he will leave in summer.

I would prefer he stayed but it looks like Fernando is on his way and, with the homegrown rule, we can't really keep both.

Fernando has big shoes to fill for me - Garcia has been impressive in 2014.

On the OS, there's a gallery of returned players.

There's one which clearly shows Navas and Garcia, however the caption only recognises Navas saying "Navas back in town" and doesn't acknowledge Garcia at all.

This must mean he's gone.

Where do I collect my prize for being ITK?

Should I have been a bit more cryptic? Or included a youtube clip?

He's too slow for the Premier League, but Serie A would fit him perfectly imho
If he's not going to Inter, but staying here,or going to another team in the Premier League then his coach, whoever will be,should make him a CB,that's what usually happen to particulary slow midfielders, and every time I've seen him playing as a CB he's played good

None of those come close to Garcia since Jan Garcia didn't receive the praise for a job well done he was excellent.

Wanyama? Never played. Mulumbu is the only one who had a decent season in that list. Although I would sell Garcia tommorow.

Never understand the praise Matic gets, was rubbish whenever i saw him play, lost the ball time and time again, massively overrated. Garcia has got better no doubt, think hes a good option to have.

He did step up in second half of season, but previously was not consistently good enough to improve the team. Management feel Fernando will be an improved version, and time will tell if they are correct, but it think it's the correct decision as garcia just was missing that bit of mobility to be really top class in a central defensive position.

For me his best game was Hull away.....where he filled in for VK for 70 odd mins.

But equally I remember him trying to fill in for Fernandinho vs Chelsea and getting found out.

So overall an upgrade is needed.

Great post, completely agree, Fernandinho is a hard man to fill in for, think Garcia can be apart of the squad, but he must know he wont get much game time. Fernando is a step up, ive seen Fernando play and its not even close, but Garcia could still be a squad player, although doubtful he would be happy with that i guess.

Garcia had a decent end to the season, but I'll never forget in one of the final matches of the season where we were cruising against a bottom half team, he got turned and left for dead for pace and was clutching after the opposition player like a drowning man clutching for driftwood.

Pellegrini plays to win and prefers to do this with a high line, so we need players who have high energy levels and pace. Alas Garcia has neither and although he performed better in the 2nd half of last season, we can do better. I'd prefer us to try & get our £16m back and buy a younger player who has has pace, skill and energy and can be an understudy/competition to Fernando & Fernadinho.

My verdict - get rid, we can do better..........

Demichelis played instead of Fernandinho in the defeat at home to Chelsea....Garcia played in the Cup win and was excellent...

Zuculini? DM with some box to box ability

Not quite good enough for regular football at City but has been more than capable squad player and did the job that was asked to the best of his ability. I will wish him well wherever he goes to.
