My guess is that if were selling Garcia then Rodwell will be staying

Probably with one eye on the HG quota.

Yup

With Rodwell I think he can play all down the spine of the team. I could see a Yaya type if he is pushed forward also think box to box player as well as a defensive midfielder and even a centre back if need be. Holding onto him wouldn't be bad if he stays injury free. He is in the Richards boat with both injured most of last season what clubs will want to sign either on long term deals. Think we may not even off load the 2 even if we want to.

Great post, completely agree, Fernandinho is a hard man to fill in for, think Garcia can be apart of the squad, but he must know he wont get much game time. Fernando is a step up, ive seen Fernando play and its not even close, but Garcia could still be a squad player, although doubtful he would be happy with that i guess.
Garcia had a decent end to the season, but I'll never forget in one of the final matches of the season where we were cruising against a bottom half team, he got turned and left for dead for pace and was clutching after the opposition player like a drowning man clutching for driftwood.

Pellegrini plays to win and prefers to do this with a high line, so we need players who have high energy levels and pace. Alas Garcia has neither and although he performed better in the 2nd half of last season, we can do better. I'd prefer us to try & get our £16m back and buy a younger player who has has pace, skill and energy and can be an understudy/competition to Fernando & Fernadinho.

My verdict - get rid, we can do better..........

Zuculini? DM with some box to box ability
Never seen him play, but yes if he fits the bill why not let him shadow the 2 Fern's...........

getting 10m for garcia would be a god deal...never rated him and even though his performances improved he is still not good enough...will be glad if he is sold

Where does Huws figure in the equation?
Apparently he's had a fantastic season in the Championship & from what's been reported, we are to (if we already haven't) loan him out to a Premier League team to see if he's the real deal.

This strategy I can understand and if what we're hearing about Zuculini being loaned out to a Spanish team to see how he fares it seems we're following Chelsea's example. I would be willing to let them both go on loan for a season and rely on Garcia, the only issue I have is what happens if Garcia's form lapses back to whence it came?

Do we take what we can get for him now whilst his stock is at the highest its been whilst he's been at City, or do we chance another season and hope his form remains steady or improves?

You can't fault his commitment and his versatility. He played a vital part in our success last season, filling in when needed and he managed to get used to the pace of the game. If we sign a centre back then we don't need him to fill in there (abysmal injury luck aside) and in midfield we now have Fernando to play his role, Fernandinho to cover and Huws as an emerging player.

I think we need to sell him rather than use him here and there. He improved because he played consistently. I don't think that will be the case again and therefore he will get disheartened and play poorly.

I don't know what the club are going to do about Rodwell. A talent undoubtedly but someone who is no longer young by today's averages, and who really needs a full season being fit, to build confidence. If he can return as good as he has shown in glimpses then he can fill a similar role to Fernandinho. You then have the possibility of a two man central midfield of Yaya and Fernandinho for some games and Rodwell and Fernando for others. There are many ifs and buts with regards to his staying fit. For me, with Huws maybe 12months away from being able to step in, we have to keep Rodwell and give him one season to make a mark. If he doesn't we have a homegrown player to step in, if he does then great.

I reckon if anything between £10m-£15m comes in for Garcia he will be sold.

He improved last season but it was still not to a level of where we want to be.

Garcia will only get better this year.

We will need him more often than we won't.

If he is happy to stay there is no reason why we should sell him unless its a super offer way above what we value him at.

i can see yaya being a bit let down this season....garcia may have an important role to play - whether he's up to it is another matter, but i think hes done enough to deserve a fair crack at it.

On loan to Napoli ?
