Garden Birds and wild birds thread.

Saw a museum of murmurating Cedar Waxwings at work yesterday. There had to have been at least a thousand birds flying and circling around directly over us, they were there for hours
Went to a mates in Derbyshire this afternoon.he keeps caged birds ,beautiful sociable loving creatures...as we sat in his kitchen
I looked out and saw The starlings.do their thing.....at Dusk.
Only about 40 birds, not the numbers I used to see...back in the day.
But it always hits me...they are Free.not caged..

That waxwing event was un believable and nothing I’d seen before

I’m saying stoat
I thought Stoat.
1st pic I think I can see a tiny bit of white on the face.
Very difficult to tell.i had a look at my copy of " Thorburns Mammals"
A book of Archibald Thorbourns paintings of British wildlife...
It would appear to be all about the Tail. ...When distinguishing Stoat and Weasel...a very tricky task
And don't even mention Irish Stoat.fffs when that comes into the equation...head explode time.
Nature is Tricky.

At present just some Jays, a couple of Crows and a Snowy Owl. The latter, just sits majestically on top of the telephone pole and watches the world go by. I can actually stand right underneath and he doesn't seem at all concerned. He's beautiful.

We are lucky to get a lot of different birds in the garden during the rest of the year.

American Robins (dumb as stumps)
Red-winged Blackbirds (can get mildly aggressive)
Sparrows
Northern Flickers
Cowbirds/Grackles (Smart dudes)
Cardinals (Beautiful)
Hummingbirds (Dainty and amazing)
Killdear (often feigning a broken wing)
Mourning Doves
Goldfinches
Starlings
Waxwings
Warblers
Chickadees
Turkey Vultures (soaring way above)
Geese
A couple of Ducks in the stream
Heron
Various hawks are often around, along with the occasional Eagle and Osprey
Wild Turkeys (in the adjacent field)

................and many others, the more the merrier.

We get these little ermines out here, occasionally you’ll see them running across the snow, the tip of their tail is black, pretty much the only way you can spot them
