If Bale was available for £20mill down and the rest on the drip the queue of clubs wanting to buy him would stretch round White Hart Lane several times. This is another Real style transfer MO, unsettle the player by publicly saying they want to sign him for a ridiculous figure and then try and get him on the cheap( relatively) because the player is angling for a move there. The selling cub either have to hang on to an unsettled player or agree to Real's terms. It stinks, but of course being the mighty Real they can get away with it.

I'm pretty sure that's how it often works for foreign transfer in or out, the buying club pay the fee over the length of the contract given to the player. For transfer between english clubs you pay for it in a maximum of 2 payments, the first on signing and the second 12months later.

World-Class is a term used too lightly IMHO. Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Goater, the pretend Ronaldo, Maradonna, Pele, Zidane, Cryuff, Xavi, Iniesta and players of that ilk are world-class.

Below that come international class where players like, Batistuta, Figo, Rossi, Baggio, Roberto Carlos, Henry, Van Nistlerooy, Shearer, Gerard, Yaya, Aguero, Suarez, RVP, Rooney, Eto'o, Tevez, Fabregas, Bergkamp, Scholes etc.

Then below that we get Champions league rated and on current form and with what he's achieved so far this is where I'd place Bale at best. In here you'd get Lampard, Terry, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand etc.......

I'm not saying Bale can't and won't improve, but no way is he up there after one very good season. the aforementioned players have proved over time that they are up there and Bale still has a lot to prove in my book.

Not a chance of scoring 40 goals a year. He was Spurs only real scoring option last year and that boosted his stats. With Ronaldo he's be lucky to get 20. Even if Ronaldo left he'd still not score anything close to 40 because of the talent aorund him. The team will never be built around him like Spurs was or like Madrid is with Ronandlo.
