Yeah but Modric went to a Spanish club not an English club, so the English tax didn't apply.

Levy would be biting his nose to spite his face if he took less money from Real (who'd also pay in installments) than take what we would offer. The money will be used to rebuild and every pound is needed because Levy runs a tight ship.

Levy lost big on holding Modric. I don't think he'll do that again.

Levy wouldn't sell to Chelsea and waited for Madrid, hence the reason Modric spat his dummy out.

I fear the same thing's happening again, Levy knows Bale wont be going to another Prem club but will use anyone to get the best price out of Real.

iirc Madrid would not bow to Levy's demands, so in the end Levy changed the deal to include a few friendlies between Spurs and Madrid, along with a partnership agreement (that probably includes preferential treatment when it comes to buying the players that Madrid doesn't need anymore, which would also include getting Modric back).

If you take all of this into account, I think Levy got a good price for Modric..

On topic, would be interesting to see if Bale plays against us given this injury. imo, he's the only one we should worry about (though Vertonghen and Sigurdsson seem to be improving every time I see them play)

They do have a new stadium to build - so money may become a factor for them in the future - i.e. a distraction to squad building.

I can see Bale going to United. He would actually suit their style of play better than ours. If he does go it will be very difficult to get that title back without some big names coming to us. Bale can turn a game on its head, even when he's seemingly quiet. Just like on Sunday.

No, the lads that good he could play in any system and style. Great technical ability to go with his pace. In fact playing for a team/system that doesn't solely rely on his pace could prolong his career.
