Gareth Barry

Barry is a perfect pro and great to have in the squad.

His passing wasn't great today but he is always 100% commited.

To be fair mate it was dismal. I lost count how many times he gave the ball away and at least 2 or 3 Wigan chances came directly from Barry balls ups.

I was begging for him to be substituted to be honest.

theres a fucking bloke and woman (mostly the bloke, i dont think he likes black players either) who are a couple rows behind us in 110 who constantly slag every player off if they do the slightest thing today their victim was barry. i dont see why some people waste their money if all they are gunna do is moan and not get behind the team sad cunts.

what amuses me most is remembering all the threads proclaiming him this or that shortly after he was signed (not so long after he refused Liverpool) and put in a few matches for us, and now seeing all the barracking threads he gets.

it says much more about the people who post on these forums than it says about the player himself.

(at times it's a similar sort of deal with James Milner too)

The simple fact is, these "crab players" are criticised by some of their fanbase. Many United fans think Carrick is shit; up until he was the flavour of the month, Xavi was seen as a useless player at Barca (think about 3-5 years back) and even now guys like Barry get ripped.

The problem, is that their job isn't glamarous and entirely obvious. Goalkeepers save shots, strikers score goals, defenders/defensive mids win the ball, attacking mids get forward and help out. Possibly due to this, you can look at someone like Barry and wonder what the hell he does. He wins the ball every now and again, but apart from that, he doesn't do any of the above.

As he doesn't do any of the above, the criticism starts and then is picked up because people can't understand his role. This isn't a slight, I don't understand the fascination with Adam Johnson, who I believe to be a player who is 20 years late to make a truly world class player or at least needs a team plan built around him. He is as direct as you like, which isn't always a good thing and he is one dimensional at best.
Now, Capello and Mancini rate him, so they see something that I don't because of their greater knowledge, and I learn what in the coming seasons.
Also, I never understand people who criticise Ibra, who is probably the best striker in the world outside of Balo IMO.

Long story short, sometimes we look at players and just cannot 'get them'. I don't think that Lee was been a twat, I just thinks that he looks at Barry like I look at AJ and cannot see what the fuss is about.

I know full well whst his job is Damocles. He's been extremely valuable.

I also recognise a poor performance when I see one. Him being slow across the ground isn't a problem, it just means he absolutely cannot afford to be slow to read the game, as he was on several glaring occassions today.

I really used to like him but he's getting into bad habits. Pointing fingers at the fullback (who has just dealt with the situation Barry allowed to develop) really, really pisses me off.

Has been very good lately but poor today.

Vieira on the other hand was quite average

Corrected....^^

Barry was poor, especially second half, but the whole midfield was w*nk in my opinion, even Paddy wasn't that great, we were mostly over run in midfield, and that's quite damning against Wigan.

That said the whole team were shite today, I couldn't think of a man of the match, maybe be Kompany, but even he wasn't great.

3 points though, so who the f**k cares ?

Erm come on as some have said, one bad game. We are a sour moaning lot!

One of the few players where "tiredness" is more than just an excuse. He's played a lot of games lately and this is his first truly bad game. de Jong's return means he can sit out a game or two, which should hopefully help.
