Gary James interviewing Noel Gallagher about City

Noel is a blue, he always bigs City up at any given opportunity. He's also not a bad musician who bangs out a decent tune.

More to the point, he is in musical terms on a par with the first team. His success in his field is up there with anything Sergio or Vinny have done in theirs. If Noel Gallagher was a footballer we’d all be singing ‘he’s one of our own.’ Instead there are people who say ‘who does he think he is.’

I don’t get the hate.

In Ireland, we are well known amongst each other as a nation of begrudggers, no one likes to see someone from the same town do too well for themselves , maybe its the same complex in Manchester, though I don't remember anyone having an issue with Curlie Watts tbf

On the whole I’d say No - most Mancs are proud of the tremendous history we have in the arts and sciences. There is however an element that resents those who have done well. I suppose that’s true of most places

Good interviews. Noel's o.k. Now you need to get Noel and Liam together in a three-sided interview on things City, Gary! (And pigs will fly…). I think it definitely helped that you're almost exactly of the same generation, and have the same references. So you were able to use a sort of shorthand with each other.
Oh, just a question. Is that photo at your place or Noel's? Very envious of that traffic sign saying M.C.F.C with the arrow. I suppose one or other of you nicked it?

Thanks. Yes - if only Liam and Noel were up for it.

Noel is a few months older than me but I attended my first City game a few years before him (My parents took me as a baby). I agree that it helps being a similar generation though I think the bottom line is that we were both Blues who knew our stuff and I genuinely wanted to hear (and enjoyed listening) him speak. I saw my role as just prompting the stories really.

On the photo... we did the interview in his studio and Noel was keen to ensure that sign appeared in the photo. It’s not the best image we could have had taken but, in terms of its significance, Noel was right to insist that the sign was on the photo. It is a genuine road sign from near Maine Road but sadly it’s not mine. Now, how it ended up in Noel’s studio is not for me to say...

Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.
