who uses newspapers for their latest news nowadays?
and if a paper does happen to throw out something that you haven't heard the story is usually embellished or simply lacking in fact. I'm done with newspapers.

that's right, I'm for burning books too!

these days we have YouTube, and Buzzer1 - and who needs anything else to get the heart and truth of the matter?

(journalists, ppfftt... who needs 'em? - we all know they're just sitting around on their arses relying on their fat free-for-all expense accounts, kicking back by the pools in tourist Meccas like Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia.. they should all get proper jobs and go mine electricity FFS)

Oops! Has something touched a nerve? You should try laying off the hard stuff until at least ten, you'll find the paranoia subsides soon enough.

amusing.
however in my post i mereley stated i was done with papers. you may by all means continue to get your information instantaneously from the newspapers.
Its just whilst your sat at home waiting for your next dose of concocted, self indulgent, biased stories to be delivered via a paperboy, i will have heard the news, gone to as direct of a source as i can find and drawn my own conclusions, all on my own. I can only speak for myself my friend. Todays News, Tomorrows Chip Paper.

Was it suicide? I've seen newspaper/internet reports saying suicide, but official statements only say he "took his own life" or was "found hanged."

Inquest report here (all reports are very brief)

The inquest into the death of former Wales football manager Gary Speed has heard how his wife discovered his body.

Detective Inspector Peter Lawless, of Cheshire Police, told the inquest on Tuesday that Louise Speed found her husband 7am on Sunday morning.

"The information was that he had been found by his wife and the ambulance service gave advice on what to do," he said.

The 42-year-old former professional footballer was found hanged in the garage of [their] Cheshire home.
It did occur to me that it might have been misadventure, but the garage, with its up-and-over door, is a place for suicide, not misadventure, so I can't really see that and have ruled it out now. The police have ruled out homicide. The inquest is adjourned until 30 January, so we may not know any more until then.

It's just crazy. Why would a guy with so much going for him do such a crazy thing? No indication to anyone that he was anything but happy with his life. Everyone seems to be at a total loss to explain it...

Cannot imagine what his family must be going through and what a thing for young kids to have to carry for the rest of their lives.

I'd always wondered who it was who found him, so it was his wife... She must have woken up, found him not there, starts to search, and then finds him hanged. That is just so harrowing, the image of her just opening the door and finding him dead, will scar her for the rest of her life. Makes me sick thinking about it.

I heard the possibility of Erotic asphyxiation, gone wrong.

For people to say we shouldn't speculate is ridiculous. It's human nature to want to know why a seemingly happy millionaire with wife and kids took his own life. I can't imagine how any parent could do something like this unless there was something incredibly serious going on. It has to be affair, abuse or illness related.

I don't think people are necessarily saying that speculation is wrong. I think people are suggesting that speculating upon the reasons for Gary Speed's death in what has turned into a RIP thread in the football section of BlueMoon to the passing of a widely-respected footballer possibly isnt the right place to air such idle speculation (and I say 'idle' because nobody, not even those closest to him, have the faintest idea at this stage what prompted Gary to do what he did).

Downstairs there is Off-Topic. Perhaps that is a more fitting place to speculate and air your conspiracy theories and let others simply pay their respects in here?

There is a time and a place for such things. Nobody is disputing the time. Many are disputing the place. You are normal people arent you? Your parents did instil in you the basic ability to determine right from wrong? Or are you this insensitive beyond the internet too?

Insensitive? From the guy who regularly wishes Margaret Thatcher dead...

Well that occurred to me - what I alluded to as "misadventure" - as it fits with his positive demeanour right up until his last reported contact with friends (a phone call with Robbie Savage). But the garage? Or do I just assume that his garage is the same dark, damp, draughty, cold place that mine is?

These two give indications of his mood on Saturday. Absolutely nothing then - or previously - to indicate any mental turmoil. Totally baffling.

Telegraph: Gary Speed died hours after joking with colleagues on Football Focus
Lawro's Mirror blog: Mark Lawrenson blog: It's the man Gary Speed was that makes this so hard to accept

I rarely watch Football Focus but I did on Saturday, so I saw him - the first time for ages, if not ever, talking rather than playing. Unbelievable.

I've also said on any thread about Thatcher that when she dies I will abstain from Blue Moon for two weeks out of respect for those that liked her.
I certainly wont be on any RIP thread spreading innuendo and scurrilous speculation about her.
Like you say JOTL you couldnt make it up...but some people on here are giving it a damn good go.
When Princess Diana died....my opinion of her wasnt favourable....so I kept schtum realising that not everyone shared my opinion of her and were genuinely upset. Not bigging myself up here, just common decency that 95% of people have. Unfortunately its the remaining 5% who make the most impact on threads such as these.
