Gas & Electricity

Whilst people might not care where the money is coming from, the solution has to be one that works in the real world.

Is it not relevant to ask/discuss on here how we think that might happen?

A recent report in the FT says that the IMF are recommending that governments pass on the full cost to users, with only limited intervention to help those in dire need. Of course that may be many millions in the UK the way this is going.
Of course, but ultimately the people in dire need won’t care about why they’ve got to pay £4K for heating, it’ll be how they pay £4K for heating.

The government need to be proactive in all areas, having been reactive for as long as I can remember.

Build nuclear plants, research tidal power etc. and totally negate the need for gas.

Thats for the future. This winter is looming large.

Why is the wholesale price going up so much. We rely less and less on Russia so surely we are now buying more volume from other countries and the cost should be going down

Supply and demand. Germany did use to buy most of their gas from Russia, but now buy it off the international wholesale market, driving prices up.

Is it not the standing charge that is gonna screw people?? You can cut down as much as you like but whilst this remains high, you’re fucked

i could be wrong, and probably am, but if leccy and gas standing charges are about 55p and 27p respectively, isn't that about £300 a year? about 10% of the projected bills? although i expect that is going to go up quite a lot

Well someone needs to sort out the cost as it's getting mad. It's like having a mortgage on your house. My bills in 18 months have gone from around £120pm to around £300 currently and no doubt that will go up hugely again shortly and again in January.

Thank fuck I fixed in February for two years.

No sign of a pay rise any time soon, everything else up by 10/20/30%. If I hadn't done would be pretty screwed, like many people will be.

Probably still sell the car soon, get a bit of breathing space.

I’m stocking up with thermals, hot water bottles etc.

Then hoping the madness subsides next year somehow.
