Gas & Electricity

Im on a pre payment meter, before the last increase I was able to top up (max £200) before the price increases and keep the old rate temporarily. Does anyone know if I will be able to do that again? And is it 1st October it goes up?

'When energy companies calculate your bill, they measure your usage by kilowatt hours (kWh).

Ofgem's announcement today means the price of electricity will rise on average from 28p per kWh to 52p in the October to December period.

Gas is expected to go up by 7p to 15p per kWh.

The price cap also limits the daily standing charge - that's the fixed amount you have to pay, no matter how much (or little) energy you use.

This will go up from 45p and 27p for electricity and gas respectively to 46p and 28p.'

Looks like it's going to be a dark winter, in every aspect of the word...

Can someone explain why the standing charge is going up at all?

Meanwhile our useless government is in week 5 of a 2 horse race and saying £400 is on the way as if that's going to Touch the surface.
Fucking useless twats

Useless fucking twats would have done nowt.

That £400 was offered to everyone based on the last increase and estimated October increase, that estimate has proven to be widely understated. Plus another £650 to the hardest hit. Let’s see what they offer once the new PM is installed before we start slagging them off for not doing enough.

Do you know we’re still paying less for our energy than our parents did? I don’t recall me dad coming home from a days work asking if the government had paid the leccy bill.

So there is an upside to all this then, can they cancel Eastenders and Emmerdale as well.
I don’t watch them but they give pleasure to millions of people for relatively low production costs, when Mrs H is watching Emmerdale I disappear to watch sport in my spare bedroom and sometimes that’s me for the rest of the evening, Soaps have mutual benefits :-).

I've just increased my monthly payment to £325 they esitimate i should be paying £425

crazy that a year ago i was paying about £80 a month

You likely should be able to, but depends on the type of meter you have, I have the old style one, not a ‘smart meter’ one.

I spoke to my energy supplier about this (as first time round, contrary to a letter they sent me which was very misleading), if you top up before the increase, you get it at that rate, as the changes are made when your card is produced and scanned, not as they originally informed me in that it gets changed directly at the meter, my electricity limit is £255, my gas is £999, so some are different amounts.

I am on the old meters but was going to upgrade to smart. Do you need to be on an old one to do this?
