Gas & Electricity

Maybe that will be the long term solution mate...most people move to small energy efficient flats...maybe owning your own home will become a thing of the past
If we all moved to flats we would still have to buy food, pay service charges, rent and council rates being in a flat does not make people immune to price rises.
I await the new PM’s package with bated breath. The government could put a stop to it right now by putting a cap on prices right now,

Yes you should be ok mate, a smart meter they can just do it from their end, which is why I said the letter was misleading, they said I didn’t have to do anything, it would all be done automatically, as I work in the industry I knew it was bollocks for my meter, they knew exactly what they were doing, they just didn’t want people going out pre-loading and getting it cheaper on the old rate.
Thank you mate. So just to confirm - (in your opinion) upgrading to a smart meter shouldn’t effect my ability to preload at the old rate?

Time for the world governments to stop fucking about and for them to task the scientific and engineering world to sort out nuclear fusion.
It worked with JFK and putting the man on the moon
There is a fusion plant in development, near Oxford I think. It is one third scale of commercial production site and is designed as proof of concept. One of the key tests is the containment of ultra high temperatures. Those responsible are confident of success. Roll on free energy.
Science seems the one sector where UK is doing well. Note we have three very large offshore wind farms, all developed with AbuDhabi money. Go tell Mad Miggy!

a few chip shops have closed down near me, one of the owners were saying the cost of frying fat has gone from £15 a block to £29, and the big trays you get your chips in 5p to 12p and then all on top of that the gas for the friers, one near my house shuts down this week with the loss of 12 jobs :-(
Chip shops are particularly vulnerable as their energy usage is so high. I bought two specials this week, extra large fish, £13.30!

Useless fucking twats would have done nowt.

That £400 was offered to everyone based on the last increase and estimated October increase, that estimate has proven to be widely understated. Plus another £650 to the hardest hit. Let’s see what they offer once the new PM is installed before we start slagging them off for not doing enough.

Do you know we’re still paying less for our energy than our parents did? I don’t recall me dad coming home from a days work asking if the government had paid the leccy bill.
I dont know the up to date position compared to the historical cost but I remember reading once that domestic energy prices went down in real terms for 20 years running after privatisation.

Thank you mate. So just to confirm - (in your opinion) upgrading to a smart meter shouldn’t effect my ability to preload at the old rate?
I’ve no idea what they’ll do if you “ downgrade” to a smart meter mate, I wouldn’t (and certainly don’t, and never will) trust the energy companies as far as I could throw them.

That's because EDF is 84% owned by the French government (and it plans to buy the remaining 16% shortly) so its effectively nationalised. That's what should happen with the utility companies heres. Nationalise them so they are effectively non-profit making entities. The only problem with that is would you trust any political party in the UK to do it and not make a complete balls up of it? I wouldn't.
Not possible. The capital cost of the two largest would be in excess of £50bn, so you’d pay for it in increased taxes anyway. Not to mention the complication of nationalising multi nationals largely owned by French and German cos.

Does anyone on here have Solar Panels. Debating whether it would be worthwhile to buy some. I can afford the price rises, but if it makes more financial sense to make my house greener I will do that.

Those going on about smart meters, load of shite our electric one hasn’t worked properly since they installed it in June by EDF, contacted them numerous times, after price increase I’m going to tell them unless it’s fixed then I will do a reading each month and they can bill me, I will pay by cheque.
I have smart meters but they still come round to read them. Eh?
