Gas & Electricity

That’s true, we use more energy these days. The 70s oil shock was just oil. This is everything we use.

Honestly I don’t know how people are going to afford it. This is probably got a most to their limit and many beyond. I don’t think we can rely on the government to fund it - it’s simply not practical long term. We need to reduce consumption and energy companies need to do their bit by spreading these costs over the next few years. Anything else the government does will be welcome, Truss won’t do fuck all extra worth a candle I doubt - she’s not socially aware enough.
People won't be able to afford it full stop. People paying rent have seen rent go up way above inflation over the last 3 or 4 years. People with mortgages are about to see mortgage rates go up with interest rates. Food costs are going up because production and transportation costs are increasing due to the cost of fuel and increased payroll costs. Petrol/Diesel is 60% up (even if it's thankfully down from its peak). And that's ignoring the additional red tape costs on imports due to Brexit. Even relatively affluent people with big houses aren't going to find it particularly easy when their annual energy bills hit 5 figures. People with high incomes living in energy efficient modern flats that they own outright will be fine but just about everyone else will be screwed to some extent.

People will have a stark choice mate.

It’ll be either pay the mortgage/rent or the energy bill.

Not going to be the energy bill is it?
im looking at holding out untill around the end of November after that they can do what they like- cut me off take me to court its there choice couldnt give a shit, they can trash my credit score no problem dont need any more mortgages or loans as im coming up for retirement, but if they go down that road i may as well max out my credit cards and go out with a big bang

Lol, don't give me that old chestnut, that's how we got in this shit in the first place. All this cock and bull about how efficient privatisation would make Utilities, it's a fookin shambles but the arseholes who gave you all this bullshit have made a nice butty. I'd stick them all on the end of a rope.
I wouldn't trust any of them to run a piss up in the proverbial brewery. I really wouldn't. Don't care what party it is.

That's because EDF is 84% owned by the French government (and it plans to buy the remaining 16% shortly) so its effectively nationalised. That's what should happen with the utility companies heres. Nationalise them so they are effectively non-profit making entities. The only problem with that is would you trust any political party in the UK to do it and not make a complete balls up of it? I wouldn't.

I wouldn’t trust any of them to make a cup of tea properly.

Those going on about smart meters, load of shite our electric one hasn’t worked properly since they installed it in June by EDF, contacted them numerous times, after price increase I’m going to tell them unless it’s fixed then I will do a reading each month and they can bill me, I will pay by cheque.

Maybe that will be the long term solution mate...most people move to small energy efficient flats...maybe owning your own home will become a thing of the past

Time for the world governments to stop fucking about and for them to task the scientific and engineering world to sort out nuclear fusion.
It worked with JFK and putting the man on the moon

This is true but they've still doubled their profit amount even though the % is really low
Yes. The retailers say that their previous profit margin of 2/3% was artificially low. 5% is reasonable imho.
SMEs, however get it in the neck. Mad.
