Gas & Electricity

Ours is fine now EDF have taken it over (it's a SMET1 meter). It was put in by Our Power before we moved in (who promptly went bust) so we had no choice over having one, but since EDF did whatever they had to so they could read it we've never had an issue.
The problem was that SMET1 and SMET2 were non compatible tghe older meters being SMET1
A software house was commissioned to write the necessary software to enable compatibility.
This is now available but not sure all companies use it

My dreaded email has come through this morning for my new tariff. My current one has been fixed until 30/4 at £171pm.

They’re putting me on their standard variable (Eon) and have said my new direct debit is £136.66?????

Have I missed something?

Your usage is lower than you thought?

I don’t look at all that. I work from home so there’s always something on. Couple of monitors, radio etc. I’ve been more thoughtful about heating, but not to the point we’ve been freezing.

I can’t get any quotes from the comparison sites as my deal doesn’t end until 30/4.

The standard variable, is that the direct debit that will change depending on the use and supply prices ?

Usually they will look at what you use annually and then DD over the 12 months, obviously use less in summer so it builds up over time for winter. Depending on the company they may periodically look at it and either increase/decrease or stay the same on your DD friending on your usage, I tend to just leave at the same no matter so I know exactly what I’m paying and budget, if I get a refund in March it’s a bonus.

I’ll do that. Cheers.

Just had an email, even though prices are coming down because the standing charges are going up over 8p a day for electricity and 1p for gas I will be paying £18 more according to shell

EDF standing charge for electricity up from 50p a day to 61p.

Wholesale charges are down, why are we being fucking ripped off?

So in a nutshell, when they know usage will be coming down, they put up the non-variable element on your bill? The cheeky fuckers if that is the case. Fuck all you can do about the standing charge.
