Don’t know whether that’s a rhetorical question, but they have to get money back from the debts they took on, they know people would start using less, so this is their surefire way of getting the money back sooner.
Or of course they could consider absorbing the loss through their vast and unprecedented profits.
 
Had our smart meter fitted a few years ago with SSE then last year they switched us over to OVOenergy. Had no issues with the meter or the switch over. Except the crazy high prices. CTID

Ditto SMET1 meters fitted years ago and now with Octopus and still readable.
There was a problem with compatibility with SMET1 and SMET2 meters but now software is available no problems.
It would appear that some suppliers have not installed the compatibility software hence asking for monthly readings.
