Gas & Electricity

EDF standing charge for electricity up from 50p a day to 61p.

Wholesale charges are down, why are we being fucking ripped off?
Ye that needs sorting, it’s gone from around 12/14p to 61p in 18 months! I e has only gone upto 51p from around 42p, I can’t get my head round how everyone’s is different?

Looking at moving to Octupus, they seem very good customer relations etc, if anyone wants to do refer a friend send me a link and we both get £50.

Octopus have been great for us, been with them years. Customer support is really good with them too

I will send a referral code via PM

I don’t look at all that. I work from home so there’s always something on. Couple of monitors, radio etc. I’ve been more thoughtful about heating, but not to the point we’ve been freezing.

I can’t get any quotes from the comparison sites as my deal doesn’t end until 30/4.

The standard variable, is that the direct debit that will change depending on the use and supply prices ?
I use the Cheap Energy Club for comparison purposes and they've paused it for the foreseeable future:-

IMPORTANT

We've paused Cheap Energy Club comparisons as switching won't save you money right now, but there are things you can do to help yourself.

First, a note from MSE founder Martin Lewis...
"The energy world has changed starkly. There is no effective price competition. No switching to save or to fix. We live in a world where all providers effectively charge the same, based on the price guarantee rate. Staggeringly, even though it's hideously costly, that rate is subsidised by the state, and would cost even more if not. For someone with 'typical usage' (a meaningless number, but good for illustration) it costs £2,500/year and in April 2023, it will rise to £3,000/year.

Within the foreseeable future, I don't see competitive switching tariffs coming in. At best it may be towards the end of 2023, but more likely April 2024 onwards - if even then.

Can I switch for service?
Yes, though you may need to call firms as many aren't actively encouraging switchers - see our latest service ratings.

Can I switch for price?
There are no meaningfully cheaper tariffs than the energy price guarantee, which the huge majority of England, Scotland & Wales are on, so you won't save by switching."

Don’t know whether that’s a rhetorical question, but they have to get money back from the debts they took on, they know people would start using less, so this is their surefire way of getting the money back sooner.

EON - Electricity SC up from 43.260 to 51.415 that's nearly 20%. Unit rate down from 33.329 to 32.718, that not even a 2% decrease. Gas SC up from 28.484 to 29.112, that's less than 2.5%. Unit rate down from 10.327 to 10.317!

How can EON justify a near 20% increase?

They don’t have to because unlike the French we just bend over and take it.
