Gas & Electricity

Companies going bust had no effect on prices of gas and electricity. It did have an effect on standing charges as the cost of sorting out the mess was passed on to customers via standing charges.
How do we know when the bill for companies going bust has been settled? Is there some sort of running total? Will it be a year or ten years before these charges are dropped down again?

If in 2008 we managed to nationalise some of our banks to stop them collapsing, surely we can do something like this to stop the entire economy going belly up.

Yes but that was to protect the bankers the important people. Remember the sense of emergency when they were under threat. For the tories ordinary people should be exposed to the discipline of the market...who cares about them after all

At least they’re paying a bigger dividend to shareholders. However, I suspect the vast majority of their customers couldn’t give a flying fuck about that!
Imagine the press they get if they took £2B of that profit and shared it out across households across Britain. Their shareholders would still get their share of the other £10B profit from the last 6 months too.
