Gas & Electricity

Once the kids go back to school expect the leisure industry to collapse, we went to the pub on Friday, pay day for many, I know people are on holiday etc but it was significantly emptier than normal. When it costs say £60 for a meal for 3 with a couple of drinks, that’s half of your utilities bill straight there. They are already saying people are using credit cards it’s going to implode soon, redundancies, mean lease cars go back, people not paying rent etc it’s going to be a proper shit show.

Whether the government give a shit or not, they’re going to have to do more and they know it. Trouble is, I can’t see anything being announced until at least September when the leadership contest is settled.

France have renationalised EDF energy to try and solve the problem. When we see some of these energy companies posting record profits maybe we should be doing the same instead of it going into some shareholders pocket.

Actually Octopus’ bud makes good sense.
Running Bulb will cost the govt £2 billion in the next year.
Octopus want to take it over with a £1 billion support package to be paid back over time.

Running bulb costs £2 billion a year. The turnover they'll get is about £2.7 billion making a tidy £700 million profit. Why give it up in the first place. Blub could slash their prices by 20% and everyone would jump on it increasing that profit to multiple billions. Government just see a quick buck as usual

It probably is going to need something as drastic as that to deal with the situation.

The mad thing about EDF is that they're one of the UK's Big Six energy suppliers so are making big profits out of UK customers while in their native France they're a nationalised company!

If in 2008 we managed to nationalise some of our banks to stop them collapsing, surely we can do something like this to stop the entire economy going belly up.

Yep - it's surely doable. More recently, the government re-nationalised the East Coast rail service because Virgin and Stagecoach couldn't meet their payments.

Government buy Bulb get all the people to switch to Blub then drop all the prices..Screenshot_20220801-105005.jpg

They owned 84% of it anyway. It’s staggering the amount of money this country has poured into the French governments coffers over the last 20 years. EDF has also acquired, then sold off, many assets such as wind farms, battery power start ups and others at more vast profit.
We are now effectively subsidising French consumers power bills.

Mind you, our railways subsidise other national governemts public transport costs, so it’s nothing new.

In fact, owing to some absolutely deluded ideology, there’s only one countries government and one countries people who aren’t allowed to either invest in, or benefit from, essential services in this country.……….

Many of these companies went to the wall early last year, Bulb must be one of the last, so prices shouldnt go up if thgey are using that excuse, renationalise and get this sorted, it quite literally will be a life or death this winter, COVID wil have nothing on it.

Companies going bust had no effect on prices of gas and electricity. It did have an effect on standing charges as the cost of sorting out the mess was passed on to customers via standing charges.
