Gas & Electricity

It is fun though , reminds me of being a kid

Seriously though , i have a ceiling fan with normal bulbs inthe bedroom and a old style low energy bulb on the wall setting , cant afford to change that lot unless a led bulb can go in them ?
There are LED bulbs that will fit pretty much any existing fitting. Worth changing the old style low energy bulbs as well because LEDs probably use about a third of what they use.

For those pissing about with candles or torches, you're wasting your time and effort. A 4W LED bulb could light up a room all year without even switching it off for £11. If it's just used when you're in the room and when it's dark the annual cost would be less than £2. The cost of lighting a whole house shouldn't be much more than a tenner a year.
If you want to save money, turn the heating down a bit, take showers instead of baths and don't leave the TV on when you're not watching it, and if you have any old tungsten bulbs replace them with LEDs.
Best way to reduce consumption of electricity is to wash bigger loads, minimise how often the dish washer goes on and avoid using a tumble dryer. These are by far the biggest consumers. Refrigerators and Freezers come a fairly distant second with lights well down the pecking order.

Paper plates! Although it might increase your weekly shopping bill…

Depends.

If you have an electric shower a bath is a much cheaper option. Could probably have 3 baths for the price of a 10 minute shower pulling a minimum of 8.5kw.

Not putting the heating on, non essential plugs are off when not home (like tellys) and I had the bath removed years ago and only have a shower.

Also candles add more ambience to a room and are cool

Fair point.
My shower is connected to the gas powered domestic hot water supply.

Great stuff, this is why I got my smart meters installed. I'll just go out for a few hours during my slots. Who said smart meters don't save you money ;)

I have decided to do my washing on the twenty min setting at 40 degrees , seems to wash stuff fine , cant see why it has to be the hour and half one

reduced mine to now £120 a month

not needed to use Gas at all hardly and electric is under budget every day on smart metre

Just got my monthly bill for Oct.

Gas and electric at new rates = £195.72. Less £66 Gov support = £129.72

At the old rates and no Gov support, it would have been £144.91

Caveat is currently the support is only for 6 months and the central heating has not been on much due to the extremely mild weather.
