Really sad what has become of him. He was the one player that I felt privileged to see score against City. I almost broke into applause when he scored for Spurs at Maine Road. Absolutely loved the bloke during his playing days.

His goals against Scotland, Arsenal, a few in Scotland for Rangers and some for Lazio live long in the memory.

Just seen him on that new (?) Umbro ad. Christ; he looks badly shook. Absolutely fantastic player, but a fucking idiot off the pitch. I guess he had too many gobshites around him and he was too gullible.

That's more than a bit hard on him.

He's been diagnosed with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder and he was always going to suffer once his playing career came to an end.

That goal against Scotland will live very long in the memory though.

Don't think I said anything that was too far off the mark, to be honest. He had sublime talent, no question. For the goal against the sweaties, Colin Hendry (who was no mug as a player) was made to look like a donkey by Gazza. But, equally without doubt, the guy was very immature off the pitch and did himself no favours. Add to the whole saga the people he surrounded himself with (his dad and "five bellies" to name but two), both of whom seemed to be nothing more than hangers on out for a meal ticket. And that's without even taking into account the whole wife beating saga and him turning up at the Raul Moat siege. All very sad really.
