What else would you call people who believed the lie on the bus?

The same as the people who automatically think people actually believe politicians tell the truth, whether that is on a bus, a leaflet or an interview. Also calling people stupid or racist even if they are when they have an equal opportunity to shape your own future is well rather stupid I would guess.

You ain't daft but your comprehension on these last few posts has lacked, dare i say it, critical thinking tbh. Even clever people make mistakes from time to time, the really smart ones learn from them:-)

Substitute ideology for narrative and you are spot on. The people that Mexico speaks about aren't very ideological but they are simple minded folks attracted to simple solutions for complex problems.
I don't think that people are swayed so easily by narrative because for example no matter what happens you will never turn a hard leaver into a hard remainer. Similarly you will never turn an anti-immigration Farage supporter into a pro-immigration Corbynite.

It makes far more sense that people are indeed swayed by narratives but only those that speak to their prejudices because that's far more powerful.

Either way on these subjects it's impossible to communicate to somebody that not only are they potentially wrong factually but also their entire belief system may be wrong too.

The most successful politicians are those who appeal to a belief system and not a narrative and Farage unfortunately certainly fits into that bracket for many people.

They attend meetings - electioneer and just get mocked

That's an interesting one. To get more equal numbers in the boundary review, her constituency of Tatton is getting Lymm from Warrington South. Lymm is more affluent than most of Warrington South so that makes Warrington South safer for Labour. The Tory MP there said he wouldn't stand there again but tried to find a safer seat, failed, and is standing again. To his credit he was on the parliamentary committee that did for Johnson, so that won't have been on his CV when trying to get selected elsewhere.

But Lymm is probably less Tory-inclined than the rest of Tatton constituency, so that makes it more marginal. Labour's candidate is Ryan Jude (2nd right of McVey) and is now predicted to overturn her 19,000 majority in the constituency that includes Wilmslow and Knutsford.

Dick Holding being a prick as per - expect he will get gushing praise from Kate Ferguson the political Editor of the Sun chiefly because she is holding Ric dick

It might help to see the first bit:

But he's parachuted himself into a seat that is still predicted to go Labour.

This is the kind of BS that was standard in the tory party for years. The membership are just useful idiots and get treated as such. But given how fractured they are generally they are starting to call each other out.

Eat shit tories.

If anyone wants some light relief, I’m reading this at the moment and it’s really good. Family Politics by John O’Farrell, who was a writer on Spitting Image and Have I Got News For You: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/152054504

A pretty funny and easy to read novel about lefty parents whose son comes back from University and tells them he’s joined the Tories.

A few on here will enjoy it.
