I'm amazed people are falling for Johnson's games here, he's calling for a General Election to ensure he's in power if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, Stevie wonder could see it's a trap!

When he can't force through a no deal he will get his election, not a single person trusts him not to move it before that,it's very simple chippy
Yes Karen, it is very simple. If Labour are truly worried about that then let's have a law which fixes the election date. Why are they not suggesting this? They've said they want an election as soon as possible???! So fine, there's how. Pass a law that says the GE can only be on October 15th. Then Boris cannot move the date and slip the UK out of the EU via the back door.

But no. Labour aren't suggesting this because they don't want an election as soon as possible, they want it as late as possible to do as much damage to Boris as possible. That's the fact of the matter and I'm really surprised there's a sole who can't see that.

Whilst all is fair in love and politics, you could be tempted to say, so what, fair enough. The issue with this however is that a November GE binds us to the EU for probably another 3 or 4 months at least, and IMO forever.

If the remain tories hadn't been forced out, it would be a much bigger problem short and medium term.

They really would have torn themselves apart had they remained.

One way or another a general election is coming and losing who he has has diminished his chances.

Moderates on all sides are disgusted. Sure he he will retain the hard Leave vote to some degree but the oppositions plan to force him to ask for an extension will slide some of that away.

He’ll do well to last.

Opposition party leaders have agreed to once again block Boris Johnson's demand for a snap general election, meaning the UK is unlikely to head to the polls before November.

Following a conference call on Friday morning, hosted by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, the parties agreed not to support the prime minister's call to go to the polls on 15 October.

They will therefore vote against a parliamentary motion the government are planning to table on Monday, meaning Mr Johnson's fifth defeat in the House of Commons now looms.

The prime minister has demanded a snap election after opposition MPs - helped by a group of Conservative rebels - successfully passed legislation to block a no-deal Brexit on 31 October.

This will compel Mr Johnson to seek a fresh three-month delay to Brexit, until 31 January 2020, if he cannot strike a new withdrawal agreement with the EU next month.

The legislation was approved by the House of Lords on Friday, paving the way for it to formally become law next week.

After the parties' talks, Plaid Cymru's Westminster leader Liz Saville Roberts revealed preventing the UK leaving the EU without a deal was their "number one priority"

She told Sky News: "Boris Johnson is on the run. He's going to start behaving very soon like a rat in a trap.

"We will only strengthen him if we allow him to have an early election and by strengthening him and giving him an early election, we will enable a no-deal Brexit," Ms Saville Roberts added.

She also revealed that her "understanding" from the talks was that "whenever a general election is enabled, the polling date has to be after 31 October".

The SNP's Westminster leader Ian Blackford told Sky News parties wanted to ensure Mr Johnson "does what he's mandated to do" and seek an extension to the Article 50 negotiating period - therefore delaying Brexit.

A Liberal Democrat spokeswoman said their 16 MPs "won't vote for a general election until we have an extension agreed with the EU".

"I think the others are coming round to that," she added. "As a group we will all vote against or abstain on Monday."

Eh? What is this Monty Python?

The UK can't leave UK without a deal UNLESS he IS PM. What on earth are you smoking?
UK can't leave the UK? I'm not sure I'm the one smoking anything here mate.

I'm talking about the fact Johnson is absolutely desperate for an election now because:

1) If he wins he can eventually force through no deal with no threat from other parties, which is what he clearly wants and his party wants despite all conventional wisdom pointing towards that being a genuinely terrible idea.

2) His party is only going to continue falling apart from this point, things are not going to improve for the Tory party

Put yourself in labours shoes. Why on earth would you call for an election now when the conservatives are ripping themselves apart from the inside?

But no. Labour aren't suggesting this because they don't want an election as soon as possible, they want it as late as possible to do as much damage to Boris as possible. That's the fact of the matter and I'm really surprised there's a sole who can't see that.
We can all see it, but can’t see why it isn’t the obvious thing to do. Delay until an extension and stopping no deal is locked in while causing maximum damage to Johnson. Not just Labour even the SNP who know they will most likely wipe the tories out whether its October or November.
Would be almost negligent to fall for Johnsons early election and let him off the ropes.

What would he do if the tables were turned? the fucking same thing that's what, this is politics and it's a dirty business, the **** has shut down parliament to get his own way and he is getting a kicking in return,he is the prime minister,he can suggest to tie the date of the election down but he isn't is he because he is a liar,he is in a whole pile of shit in a mess of his own making, everyone understands exactly what is going on
