You mean the Michael Foot who was up against a leader who had just won a war? Yes, it beggars belief.

Corbyn may have won more in England/Wales than Foot, I don't know exactly. The Scottish political landscape has changed quite a lot since then, so it's hardly like-for-like.

Not that makes it a good result, of course.

Fuck me, you never learn, Britain severely weakened?
I wondered why on earth anyone could possibly believe a person like Corbyn would benefit Labour, but it now no longer surprises me.
The Scots separatists are the ones who are going to be severely weakened - to the point of extinction - post Brexit.

True but it's a national election for comparison not an England, Wales & NI election. I suppose he could blame Ed Milliband for not handling the IndyRef well enough and losing their Scottish voter base.

After 19 years of Tory rule I was happyish when Blair won, I dare say if Johnson is dethroned in 5 years by someone similar I'll take it.

But things are broken in the capitalist system and it seems incapable of dealing with the environment, as well as the loss of jobs due to technological change.
I’m probably similar age to you as 79 was the first election I voted in. I was always a Labour voter, I liked Dennis Healey, Neil Kinnock and John Smith. The party was going nowhere until Tony Blair came along, he had some decent policies but Gordon Brown undermined him and since then it’s been an absolute shambles.

I didn’t mind Cameron as PM but May and Johnson are not of the calibre required to lead this country. The problem is Corbyn became so unpopular in this election that traditional Labour voters have deserted him in huge numbers, Brexit played its part but electing Corbyn as Labour leader was a big mistake, if another leftist replaces Corbyn it will lead to a generation of a right wing government, we need balance and Labour has to reform, again.

He could, yes. It's just a lazy slur as it was used (and deliberately so), where some of the context has been removed. Not exactly a rarity from several around this forum!

Corbyn < Foot
Johnson < Thatcher 93

Deckchair count on the Titanic - supremely irrelevant. There are zero consolations only harsh learning points which will continue to be unheeded by the hard left who are still firmly in control of the party selection apparatus.
