The parties weren't closely enough aligned to allow for a lot of people to do tactical voting.

They were both aligned in wanting the Tories out and getting a second referendum. I live in Redwood's constituency. Next door is Reading West where the Lib Dem's took votes off Labour (in an even closer marginal) meaning a Tory win. Here in Wokingham, Labour took votes off the Lib Dems to ensure a Tory win. They didn't have to "sacrifice" their principles, they could have worked together, both won a seat and deprived the Tories of two seats. It is fucking madness and anyone who genuinely wanted the the Tories out, but refused to vote tactically, is, and i choose my words very deliberately here, mind-numbingly partisan to the point of idiocy.

I'm trying to look at the positives that such a huge majority means Boris doesn't need the ERG and Jacob can fuck off, and the the DUP and Lib Dems got what was coming to them. Will just have to keep working hard saving money and see whats what over the next 5 years.

Yes, it is.

Of course Brexit was the biggest issue for them. But it would be terrible folly for the loony left to try to kid themselves that Brexit was the sole problem.

Of course, Corbyn is toxic to many people, most perhaps.

Of course the electorate are not happy with wreckless levels of spending, borrowing and taxation.

Of course people understand that we need businesses to be successful and shitting on them is going to make everyone worse off.

Of course the country as a whole is more right wing leaning than it was in 1970 and OF COURSE policies from 1970's Labour are not what people want anymore.

I actually thought last night was going to be close but in the end it was a massive rejection or at the very least a massive approval of a party on Brexit.

It just goes to show that campaigning on a fluffy policy of unworkable hope whilst demonising and smearing those that disagree doesn't get you far.

Worst election for Labour since 1935, bring out the dead.

I doubt they ever will, not with their 700,000 £3 members.

Decent centrist Labour MP's need to walk away from the party and form a new one, along with centrist Labour members sick to the back teeth of Momentum.
I'm in London at the moment and just got out of a taxi. Asked the Taxi driver if he was happy this morning or pissed off.

He said happy - which surprised me a bit. He went on to say he's a lifelong Labour voter as are his family. His son and daughter-in-law are both teachers who have always voted Labour.

But he said he voted Tory, his relatives didn't vote. And here's the interesting thing - they all voted Remain in the referendum. They are Labour remainers. He said they were all deeply torn but just could not stand Corbyn or McDonnell and some of the idiotic policies and could not bring themselves to vote for them.
