You've missed out a stage
a GE only happens if Boris is defeated today,
if he is the law will compel him to ask for a Brexit extension,
if won't he will try for a dissolution under the Fixed Term Parliament Act
if Bercow etc prevent that he would have to resign and some other bozo will become PM
A GE would follow in which Boris and the Tories would be toast and probably Brexit as well.
True, it's all become very difficult to keep track of everything, thanks

It’s been suggested that an interim government would have to demonstrate it had sufficient support, eg by a public notice signed by a majority of MP’s. Perhaps it would be sufficient if the leaders of enough opposition parties + enough Tory MPs signed a declaration of support in favour of the interim PM.

But the fact that Corbyn, Swinson, sturgeon etc haven’t got their ducks in a row yet, means it’s very unlikely that they could get to that stage quickly enough following a no confidence vote. They’re not really trying to do the ground work for an interim government because it’s stuck in the “too difficult” tray.

Can't argue with that.

I'm of the opinion that an interim government is not a probability, but, there is a great deal of personal anger towards Johnson on display today, the Tory rebels want him gone, they're out to save the Tory party, the longer he's there the less there is to save.

Nigel Farage, the Brexit party leader, is on the Today programme now.

He says if Boris Johnson were to promise a “clean break” in a general election, the Brexit party would support him.

But that is not what Johnson is planning. Johnson wants to “reheat” Theresa May’s deal, he says.

He says there is “no aspect” of the treaty negotiated by May that is acceptable.

(Johnson’s view is that, without the backstop, the rest of the deal would be acceptable.)

Until now Johnson has been able to outflank Farage and the Brexit party, but not now.

Cummings must be having a conniption!

Bojo will say nono to an extension and use it as a stick in a GE. It's just more evidence of Labour no willing to leave the EU in election terms. "I've tried everything to leave but labour won't agree to the deal that was on offer, won't agree to leave with no deal and won't even agree to a GE without an extension". People queuing up to vote.

BoJo is not getting this his way. He will be forced to extent by HoC passing a law or if he doesn't like that he will have to go for a GE before the 31 Oct.

His campaign would then be effectively a vote for a hard brexit because there would be zero chance of a deal - if he didnt adopt the hardest of brexit position Farage would sink him. No Deal has sub 30% support - mostly in small pockets where people dont traditionally vote tory. I don't see how this would turn out well given 70% clearly oppose his only significant policy and most of them are in his heartlands. T May massively misjudged the tory votes that brexit generates. BoJo making the same mistake with No Deal.

.

Bercow can only intervene if in his opinion what is being attempted is unparliamentary and/or contrary to established precedent.

Bercow is somewhat partisan and an enthusiast for reviving precedent very selectively

In your opinion of course.

Precedent does exist for a reason,GDM could explain it better than me, although when this clusterfuck is over I do hope there is serious consideration given to a written constitution.
