General Videogame Thread

I had been saving money (well trying to) to get a new type X-Box mainly for the Microsoft Flight Simulator, but then a few weeks ago I read that it was available via cloud computing on Xbox One.

That's never going to work, I thought. But it does! If you fly fast jets low it gets a bit glitchy, but it is still an amazing technical achievement to get such a thing to work on what is a 7-8(?) years old console.

Mostly I have been flying around the North West, places I know*, but soon I shall venture further.

*I crashed an F-18 into Old Trafford and it wasn't an accident!

It'll get janky on a fairly decent computer tbh anyway so that's good that it streams well.

So you are the redevelopment firm the glazes have employed, work has already begun and you've improved the Stretford skyline already!

I have to say both the Xbox and PS4 streaming services are pretty good, with reliable connections. The kids love the Lego games etc that are on demand.

I've been on a bit of a point and click bender since the announcement of return to monkey island. Replayed the original series, curse, Edna and Harvey games and now working through deponia.

Ubisoft up for sale. Their CEO has confirmed they will listen to offers after their share price has dropped from $128 in 2018 to $41 this week.

Normally I would say Microsoft would be all over the his but they are balls deep in with the Activsion take over.

No surprise as Ubisoft games have been generally shit over the last few years and the accoustions of workplace bullying and sexism in the workpiece

Started up Assassin's Creed Valhalla for a dose of viking fun. Not much different from Odyssey or even Origins except the paint.

Kind of breaks the immersion though when you're rowing up a river to raid the Saxons and nobody gives a flying toss about this boat full of vikings until you press the triangle button to start the raid.

At one point there a chain across the river barring your progress. "Leave the ship here so they don't spot us" says your number two, as you venture out on foot just 50 metres to sneak into the local fort and release the chain, viking longboat plainly in view of every soldier as it sits patiently waiting for you to return.

And what's this 'Warning, civilian casualties will cause desynchronization'? Supposed to be a viking not a Disney meet and greeter.

It is the first AC I've played since syndicate. I really enjoyed it, although it has reached the repetitive stage so I'm having a break from it.

Was a great game, enjoyed both Odyssey and Valhalla.

Anyone played Dragon Age: Inquisition? Seen comparisons of it to Witcher 3/Skyrim in the past so thought I’d enjoy it if I gave it a go, but so far it just feels flat. Not much of a story and feels like some sort of medieval/fantasy version of Ubisofts Division 2. In half a mind to pack it in.

Update: Apparently it’s a common theme to lose interest when you’re in the Hinterlands and I should advance to other areas. Will see how it goes

Yeah played it, it was really good at the time enjoyed it but that was quite few years ago.

Decided to give FIFA 22 a go as it is part of the May PS Plus offer. Played a few games , and will be deleting it.

I haven't played a FIFA game since 16, what on earth happened to it? Slow gameplay, and so unrealistic. I mean, Kyle walker isn't getting done for pace by many people, yet in the game he won't even break into a run and everyone just sails by. Same for any of the human controlled players.

The game always selects the wrong pass, at first I thought it was me but no, it happily puts a ball into space rather than passing to the nearby teammate when I tap x.

Shooting, if you build up any power at all then it's sailing over, and the AI has every team playing the same, like 1970s Brazil, with never a misplaced pass. The only difference I can see between difficulty is that if you bump it up the AI's shots go in rather than wide, the actual build up and retaining possession is the same.

Utter tosh. Off it goes before I mistakenly earn a trophy and it sits there on my profile for eternity.

I stopped buying it last year but should’ve stopped years ago. We’re effectively paying £70 every year for updated kits and it’s not worth it. Rot started around Fifa 13 I think with much more emphasis placed on Ultimate Team and microtransations.

I'm pretty proficient on Fifa but the misplaced passes do my nut. Doesn't often happen but annoying when it does.

It isn't an arcade game especially if your playing on m Legendary, it is a game that imrequires possession and slow build up especially if you are playing as a lower league side.

Also, I'm in my 3rd season on Career Mode and already there's silly bugs, really awful for a £70 game. Would be more appropriate if you could buy the game in blocks eg £30 for career mode, £20 for FUT etc

I have to disagree with your viewpoint on FIFA. This year is probably the hardest version I have played. World class mode is frantic and if you are not on it you will get hammered. Once you figure out how the computer passes and learn to master attacking space the game is fun. You also need to be able to soak up pressure and break. The only downside for me is the pass speed for the cpu. It needs adjusted to 49 imo. Finals are a nightmare and it’s like watching city play against 12 men, var, refs and an opposition that are on liverpool inhalers;)

41212 is the way to go with a dm dropping into cb while the cbs split. Play with 2 forwards as once you figure out how to pass into space the forwards cause havoc.

I did the same last year. I was absolutely gobsmacked about how bad the gameplay actually was

Might try the 41212. I'm currently 4231 and 2 CDMs might be a bit excessive. There are some games the CPU just don't want you to win, others are piss easy, there's no consistency.

Agree with the pressure, some teams really press but once you play a few pass around the back they tire out and you can put in a through ball

Select options Get behind and stay forward for the 2 attackers. Am stay forward and get into box. The LCM is set for get forward/RCM default settings. Drop DM between CB and cover centre. I have full backs on stay back to cover the wide positions.
