General Videogame Thread

Did about three hours on Elden Ring last night. The gameplay feels a perfect blend of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, there's more emphasis on dodging than parrying compared to Sekiro IMO.

The graphics are beautiful and the enemy design is varied but its very vague in terms of what you're actually supposed to do! I assume there will be lots of lore to read.

Difficulty wise, its hard to say, I fought a boss for two hours and couldn't get him down less than half health. But the enemies themselves look fantastic and the music during boss fights is as excellent as ever.

It's a game you'll definitely have to preserve with! But I think it will be excellent if you're prepared to put the time in.

Need anti depressants to play Elden Ring, it's like an insight into the mind of a suicidal 40 year old Japense man. Gloomy as fuck.

So is Elden Ring like Skyrim or like Bloodbourne where I couldn’t get past the first bit and gave up.

These types of games you got to keep trying get your level up by just going back and killing the ones you can! Summon someone for help if it’s to hard.

Played it for around 2 hours so only on first part. Can’t get on there network though is anyone having the same problem with network issues on it.

I couldn't get on the network last night but I've had a couple of fuckers invade me today so I'm guessing it's okay now?

I'm impressed with Elden Ring so far. Spent ages exploring what I feel will ultimately be a small piece of the map. I'm on original PS4 and have no performance complaints. However, I'm having a niggling sense that it might be too easy.....I'm only 4 hours or so in, and nothing has felt so far like the typical daunting Dark Souls boss. However - I think I've only just encountered the first "big" boss and haven't beaten it yet. I also played Sekiro in the weeks leading up to this so my views on difficulty might be slightly warped.

Just coming back to say its definitely not too easy.

Would really like to play Elden Ring and the new Horizon game but I'm thinking I should wait until I can get my hands on a PS5. So probably never.

Well I’m two hours in and pretty much anything that seems to lay a finger on me almost kills me instantly. Not much help either, very much just thrown in and off you go.

Have a wander around. There is an NPC when you first come out into the world who will hint at where you should go, but you don't have to go there immediately. For what it's worth I've been there but I'm stuck there. Had a wander around, found some other bits etc. I'm being deliberately vague by the way. If you're stuck then restart as a Vagabond, I always start as a Knight type in these games for the better armour whilst I get used to the combat.

Took me 5 tries to kill that boss where the wolves are just had learn the moves of the boss and make sure I didn’t let my Endurance drop to nil.

Loving it though and first play through of these soul base games is always hard you just have to keep going keep dying keep levelling up.

Cheers. Just wandering round at the moment killing guards and goblin type things trying to get used to combat. Have lost connection to the elden ring server about 5 times now though which is frustrating.

You'll soon get points for levelling up. I've turned online off this weekend because I bet its rammed with unfriendly invaders
Figuring it our slowly. Can level up now using runes and understand how that works now so going to spend some time trying to improve my fighting skills and leveling up a bit. Spent some time killing a load of guards and then fell into a canyon and spent 30 minutes killing zombies with no way out. No bloody clue what was going on but it was good. How rude though, the wife actually wants me to engage with her now.

I'm loving it. I'm about 5-6 hours in and not even beat the first boss yet, much prefer this over games that you can complete the day they come out.

Only a few hours in, hasn't gripped me like other souls game yet, kind of feels clunkier than usual to me. feels like you get punished for something not just the once but 2-3 times after too when trying to recover because of the clunkiness. Beat the first 3 what I assume are sub bosses I've come across, first one, the dog took me a few tries, the one in the cave with the wolves I did first go and the pumpkin head I went in with no heals and nearly beat it, went back and beat it second try. The open world means its easy to just avoid enemies which at the start at least is kind of taking the challenge in the game away, I fully expect it will get significantly harder once I get deeper in, I'm enjoying it but it's not hooked me as much as others just yet. I've literally just figured out how to level up after losing a shit load of souls I've been holding waiting to level up, Typical.

Forgot to mention, I started as the samurai, stands out like a sore thumb to me from the starting classes.
