Isn't the point that if they were woken by gunshots they had not heard the police "announcing" themselves? One corroborating witness heard them announce, a dozen testified that they didn't and it's not clear whether the grand jury was made aware of the dozen. The grand jury - make up secret, deliberations secret - does not seem a part of justice "seeing to be done". But while I hate to agree with Dax, it's not shorthand to say Breonna was "killed while sleeping", it's just not true.

What on earth justified a night time raid? Did the judge who issued the warrant know that was the intention?

More questions than answers really, not least how firearms-trained officers missed the guy who fired at them but hit someone else 5/6 times out of around 20 bullets fired.

No one else in the house heard the 'announce'. Were they trying not to wake the neighbours? Or were they badly briefed officers who didn't know who was in the apartment, didn't know why the raid needed to be done in the dark; or did they know who was there and were surprised (even in America) that one of them had a gun licence?
