Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

All I want is a goalkeeper who is a truly safe pair of hands between the sticks. I’m not interested with this obsession with building from the back with the Goalkeeper. What matters most is reliability and presence in goal. He never looked out of place in a PSG side renowned for their quick, attractive, and swashbuckling style of football. Some of his saves last season, particularly against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa, were nothing short of extraordinary. It would be a welcome change to have a keeper capable of keeping us in a match through moments of brilliance, rather than one who concedes from the opposition’s very first shot on target.

I can't honestly believe there are posters who are against this. Him and Trafford as number 1 and 2 are the best options a club will have in the League.
I'm sorry mate but this is a really funny post.

We have to sign those better players because of the levels we’re competing at. Foden and Rico have shown there is a path into the first team if you are good enough and patient.

Players like Sancho and Palmer wanted more than promises of a path into the first team, they wanted assurances that they would play - which Pep won’t give.
Sure, but worlds apart from what you said earlier.

I'm not so sure on this. His main weaknesses apparently are his distribution and his refusal to come for crosses.

Pep's game revolves around a group of eleven who are comfortable with the ball at its feet, and we already have a situation where premier league football has changed in the last season or two to really ramp up the importance again of corners and long throws. Lego head has already made it is number one weapon at arsenal.

I know Eddie is not always the commanding presence off his line either, whereas I think Trafford is, but I just don't think we should trade a boost to shot stopping for reduced distribute AND no improvement to control of the box.

I trust the club though, even if I am concerned with this late window flurry of activity.

Top class keeper if not best around atm, if available you go for him

feel a bit sorry for Trafford if thus happens though as I think game time would lessen
Trafford shouldn’t even be at City. He’s nowhere near the standard to be a keeper for one of the best teams in the world. If Traffords our no1, the standards have really dropped.

True but Luis Enrique doesn’t think he fits into a style of play most similar to Pep’s Asauming the quote is true seem strange that Pep want him if true of course View attachment 165778
Maybe the two of them are playing this out?
Enrique telling Donna, you go first and I will see you next season.
City will already know the next manager like they did with Pep, well in advance

When it is announced on the OS...
Ederson has been absolutely intrinsic to our success. Donarumma is a great keeper but a very different style of goalkeeper. He may be able to be coached in a way that comes closer to our style, and Ederson may leave for new pastures, but there are a lot of manoeuvres ahead of us before Donarumma is done. The window remains open.

I feel for Trafford, I really do.

But Donnarumma is arguably the best keeper on the planet and is 26. He could be our GK and be world class for a decade. Trafford was a guy who was supposed to sit on the bench and grow this year under Eddie. I think Galatasary came back to the table for Eddie, and we don't believe we can compete with Trafford as our starter, and this option presented itself and it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

This is a brutal industry, and it has happened to players before, even here. I think Trafford should take the cup games, play well and go get a move to a Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs, or maybe even abroad if the right opportunity presents itself.
In fairness both signings (if DR happens) feel opportunist and reactive rather than 'planned' as such.

Not saying that as a bad thing, just pointing out how it looks.

I guess you could say PSG is a good example of how you can end up with the best squad in the world through opportunism.

United an example that it is risky

Just seen a rumour that PSG would expect €20-30m. Can't be arsed to go back and find the source but that price would make this a bit more palatable.

Still feel like this is a weird move though.
In his last year of contract, replaced, unwanted, already said goodbye.

And people thing we should be happy with 5m for Ederson!

anyone has insight on how this impacts Trafford ? Donnarumma for cup competition/UCL and Trafford for Prem?

If Ederson is leaving, I agree we need someone more established/better than Trafford, but Donnarumma is only 26. If we're paying PSG for him, I imagine he'd be getting a 4-5 year deal, which makes zero sense to what we just paid for Trafford...

And where is Oretga in all this? Very odd.
It's the transfer window.

Not sure Donnarumma is anywhere near Oblak, Garcia, Alison, Cortois or Chevelier.

He never wins the ball from crosses, he is panicky and unsure with his feet and the distribution he does get away is all over the place. Decent enough shot stopper, but Paris are replacing him with a better keeper.

If the deal happens, then I would expect Donnarumma to play PL and CL games with Trafford playing Cup games and perhaps the CL qualification games. And pushing Donnarumma for the No. 1 spot.

This deal will get done today.

I've nothing against him but why bring Trafford back if you are going to do this. Doesn't seem right to me.
Whatever the original reasons were, it was a brilliant Market opportunity to buy Trafford for a cut price deal.
If he’s unhappy, he moves on next year for 30m and we bank even more profit.

Ederson and Ortega contracts both expire in less than 12 months. For all we know City have been working on this all Summer. The Gala president has been talking about signing Ederson all Summer. City may have told Trafford. It does not change his status. He's still the no. 2 keeper fighting for the the no. 1 spot, but it will make it harder to play in the big games in the future if Donnarumma signs.

I will be very happy if this happens as I support City not individual players. Trafford has got a great job competing to be City's no.1 alongside the best players in the world.
