Gillingham v Manchester City 1999

I don't know if it helps or not, but I really like David's book. My comments appear earlier in the thread if anyone's interested. What I'd like to add now though is that it does take a lot to research, interview and write books of this nature. David is unlikely to make any money out of it (royalties are notoriously bad and probably won't cover his travel costs to interview Wiekens - or even the travel cost to Ormskirk to interview one of the 1999 key figs), but books like this add to the wider knowledge of our club. Some of us get worked up when people make the ridiculous comment that City 'has no history' and so the popularity of books like David's (and some of mine, of course;-) ) will help get this message across to the wider public that MCFC has a great and varied history that few if any clubs can match.

All clubs are different and have a story to tell, but it's up to us as Blues to make the world sit up and understand our club's history. David's contributed to that with this book by creating the definitive story of 1999. It's of course only one aspect in our club's history, but it is one of our most important. I'd urge all Blues to read it, but more than that, I'd urge all Blues to encourage non-Blues to read it. That way they'll get to understand what we're going on about and why we love our club (warts and all).

David - again if it helps, please feel free to use any of my comments here or earlier as a review or to help your book sales (it may not help of course!).

Thanks Gary, kind words and much appreciated as always.

You're right in terms of the finances - I'm never going to be a multi-millionaire from book-writing, I'll be lucky if I make anything on top of my costs back. But you're also right in that I - and I know you!! - am not in this as a was to profiteer, but for the love of doing the interviews and the research and, as much as I moan about it, actually doing the writing.

And I'm incredibly humbled at how well this book's been received. :)

Just finished this last weekend.

It is a superb read and highly recommended.
To get the insights & emotions of all of the players who actually played that day along with the manager also is somewhat unique.
The book reaffirms the real team spirit of that particular bunch of players and just how important that game was for the future of the club itself
and why it is now firmly etched into the history & fabric of MCFC.
It brought back some great memories for me and it is a genuine 'must read' for City fans of any age.

Cheers mate! I don't suppose you'd mind popping that as a review on the Amazon page? :P

Looking forward to the QPR sequel in 10 years or so. I can just imagine Yaya showing you round his converted garage now :)

I reckon it'd be a miracle if I could get anywhere NEAR pulling that one off! I'd want a medal or something. :P

Was at the game with Faunty, Richie and Nutty. When we were 2-0 down with minutus to go they got up an left. I said no stay we can still do it but they left. Then we scored our first goal so I ran after them and bumpt into them on the concourse below. We ran back to our seats but it was so dark on the concourse I ran into a bin and went arse over tit. Went back to seats and the rest is history. Never forget our history
