Give Neil Young a testimonial

I'd certainly support such an idea, but doesn't his condition mean he'd be unable to actually play, thus rendering the testimonial kind of pointless? I guess you could hold a match in his honour, instead, though.

DUH!!!

Holding a testimonial doesn't mean the player has to play in it!

And yes, City should hold one for Neil Young, the player who scored more goals than anyone else during the glory years.

it could be done...

organise a game for him and then take the £3,000 the club gave him in the early 70s off the final takings and give him the rest.

it's about righting wrongs

Didn't someone (possibly on here) organise a 'testimonial' in the form of a series of fundraising events a couple of years ago?

Droylsden Blue or some guy from Droylsden springs to mind.

Exactly righting wrongs,

He was supposed to have been promised a testimonial years ago.

Maybe a preseason game would do, for Neil and the rest of the squad from the late sixty’s, they are part of our history and gave us the success we all want now

We may have just found Bluemoon's new campaign for this summer. We are all aware that we can actually make at least a small difference if we try, and although I never watched the lad live, his name was spoken in hushed tones in the Damocles household whilst I was growing up.

I'm not saying that City should help every player who ever played for them, but there are several who literally helped build the club, such as Young, that we should never forget.

I'd be 100% behind absolutely anything that would help this man out. He is a part of the City family, and we should do whatever we can for him. If Bell was in the same position, we'd do something.

So, what can we do to help?

I asked Paul Tyrell about a testimonial for the great man a couple of years ago and his response was "financial arrangements were made at the time of Neil's departure from the Club and it's unlikely that a testimonial will be awarded".

However, we live in different times now and if enough Blues voice their support it may happen.

Now, why doesn't that surprise me? Vicky Kloss is much nicer and much more approachable than ol' 'Tiggsy'. He was too busy following his beloved Liverpool to be bothered about our history.

Users on this forum should push for Youngy to get a testimonial. Let's make this happen.... It's one of the things in our history i find completely disrespectful.

We are moving in a new direction under new owners, let's fix up some wrongs from the past.

Garry Cook, if you are reading. Have a read of his autobiography and do the right thing by him, and us the fans.

Yes you're correct it was Droylsden Blue. If I remember correctly he got very little help from the club.

The reason he wasn't given a testimonial was due the power struggle and ownership issues, the 3k was the contract release payment for Young to take the lesser salary offered by Rochdale in the region of £25 per week, though its documented that big Mal had promised him a testimonial when he retired, which the club then went back on.

When he finally retired he ended up with a £60 final payment and had to sign on before fitting between numerous jobs.

Young himself was very resentful towards the club and indeed boycotted the club for many years before the bog roll takeover and some kind of guest of honour peace offering.

When it was brought up on here quite recently a few of the older posters said he wouldnt want old ground to be dug up.
