Given issues ultimatum to Mancini

exactly, no reason for either Given or Hart to be happy with such an arrangement when loyalty to the club could mean deep-sixing either's carrer as a top-flight Prem keeper. Especially Given, he is 34 for cripe's sake.

We have 38 league matches and the possibility of 18ish in the Europa league plus the other two domestic cup comps, so, all in all that's two seasons worth of games.
I'd suggest one keeper for the league (which probably is Given as he has the number 1 jersey) and Hart for all cup games.

If we had to choose one to go, IMO it should be Given as he's in the last years of his career. I'd hold out for a fooking good price though

I agree with what you are saying but, at the same time I can totally understand where each is coming from. The only guaranteed games are in the Prem. If I was Given or Hart and I was told I would only get cup matches, Id say thanks but no thanks, I believe in our team but ...

A more balanced report on the OS now!

Shay Given is not ready to concede the Blues number one keeper slot to Joe Hart.
But as he prepares with the Republic of Ireland squad to face Argentina in a friendly he did tell a press conference that he feels he needs to be have first team football.

“I am at a stage where I need to be playing, I am 34-years-old and I have not got millions of years left to play,” he declared.

“I hope to be playing Saturday (against Spurs) but whatever decisions the manager makes I will respect that.

“I hope it is going to me but if it is not we will see what happens.

“Ideally I would like to stay at City it is a big club to be at; it is a very ambitious club with fantastic owners. I want to be part of that. That is why I joined in the first place.

“Joe's a top keeper as well so it's inevitable that there will be speculation about who will start on Saturday, that's part and parcel of being at a big club because there are so many great players there. It's not just my position, there are 10 other positions where people aren't sure who is going to play."

Boss Roberto Mancini has already said that he wants both keepers to stay and fight for a place.

“In this moment we have two good keepers and one will play and one will stay on the bench,” he said after the win over Valencia.

“We play many games, a lot of games in one year – three games every week – so we could play both goalkeepers.”

why is it balanced? Because it conveniently doesn't put the quote in about him possibly going on loan if he doesn't start?

I'd start getting used to the thought of Taylor being the backup. It's unrealistic to ask 2 of possibly the 4 or 5 best keepers in the league to consistently sit on the bench. One will be gone.

Sick to death of these players speaking out of turn calling the shots saying what the club and manger will do.

Its got to stop somewhere, FUCK sending our best players out on loan what are we are fucking charity ? If Given wants to temper tamtrum and demand a move and is not willing to fight for his place, fuck him but he will have to be sold and we want back what we paid for him.

He can go to Arsenal whatever we need to get a squad of players that actually want to play for us, on our terms and are going to be team player not going crying to the press every 5 minutes when they dont get their own way.

Not bothered who is number 1, if the other wants a loan deal it is fine by me. Provided and I mean PROVIDED we can recall them don't want that fucking fiasco we had with Birmingham last year.

Given is not a leader at all, the same as Kolo isn't. Hughes made those decisions and it cost us.

I think you may be surprised just how outspoken and vocal Shay can be.In the company of his peers he is very confident, could even be mistaken for arrogance,in my opinion he is a leader and one thing is certain,he also sees himself as one.

At this point in his career he would definitely not play second fiddle to anyone, nor should he.

He's well liked in both Irish and City squads, just like he was very popular in Newcastle and they really felt the loss of him, not just on the pitch but in the dressing room.

Went to look for this, remembered reading it at the time, found it incredibly quickly though. Niall Quinn describing the Irish team in 02, this is what he says about Given.

Shay Given: Good story teller, great wit and oozing Donegal charm: women are mad about Shay but he rarely seems to notice which makes him nice to be around. At ten o'clock when the tea and sandwiches arrive, you'll always find him in the middle of the group. But on the training ground nobody works harder. As soon as he came into the team, you could see it was probably going to be the end of Packie, not because Packie had done much wrong, but because Shay had such an appetite for the game and wanted it so badly. Once came to Sunderland on loan for eight games but made such an impression that the staff still ask about him. A good lad.

Made me laugh at time time reading it..though ye should see what he said about Dunne. Haha.

As I said in other Hart v Given treads. We have a keeper who has played to a high standard in this league for the last 10 seasons or more. Compared to Hart who has just had 1 good season last year. With him being the papers favourite to be Englands new number 1 it shouldnt be that he should be Citys number 1 straight away. I honestly think Shay is what we need if we are looking to go for the title. The defense should be a settled part of the team. So I wouldnt expect to see the players being rotated during the week all the time it wouldnt be good for the defence.
I feel Joe may well have to be happy with playing in League Cups / Some FA Cups and Some Europa league games. When it comes to the big games I feel Shays leadership will win out and Hart will have to be happy with it. IF he isnt then move him out on loan. No matter what happens there will be clubs looking at this with great interest and I wouldnt be surprised IF Arsenal came knocking on the door for either keeper.

Did you read what the lad actually said?

At an Irish training session he was asked about hopes of playing for City, he responts with he hopes to start, he really wants to but it's up to the manager and he'll respect his decision.
When pushed to answer would he leave he didn't start, he said he MIGHT consider a loan, but would need to talk to the club, but in reality he really doesn't want to leave City, being such a big ambitious club with great owners.
He hopes to be starting on the weekend, but at the end of the day, there are 10 other guys fighting for a position, and he, like everyone else will just have to wait and see.

That is it, not ultimatium, no demands, no threats, just answered what he asked in the best way he could, as respectfully as he could. Some supporters are as bad as the media when it comes to dealing with fact and fiction

Totally agree, for that quote alone he should start on the bench for me and learn to shut his trap, yes hart has done the same, difference being he's a kid who will learn from the outbursts, given is a seasoned pro who should know better, fuck me i expect more from a guy who has so much experience............. seems to me he doesnt fancy his chances against joe.

I love Joe and really beleve he is citys and englands future number 1 for many years to come. That said Given has been and continues to be the finest keeper in the pl since big pete. One more year on loan won't do Joe any harm and has got to be the best option. Given saved us a dozen points last season, penelty against Chelsea? Remember that
