Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

Am I missing something but Belgium have just left him out of their squad because he is not match fit so not really sure what the debate is about.

Pretty sure Pep mentioned earlier in the season Kompany has been fit, played and then got another injury. So guidance is taken now from his blood results. Possible there is still an issue with these.
Match fit means because he hasn't been playing matches..... not because he isn't fit. I thought everyone knew he wasn't playing matches?

Also it could mean there are still issues like earlier in the season with his bloods which mean he would not be considered 'Match fit'. Alternatively Pep may not see matches agsinst Monaco,Pool, being the ideal games to test his fitness. Difficult to criticise that decision.

But give me 150 million and I can get City in a better position

You aren't a great believer in adding constructive argument to a debate are you?

What debate? You're writing fairytales with make believe conclusions which you think back up your (no doubt meticulously thought through) opinion of our manager. But you're just presenting closed loops that exist only in your head and therefore can't be disproven. Personally, I think that stifles debate far more.

If that is the case Pep has sinply got that wrong....based on ability even within a different system kompany is head and shoulders above all the rest....btween tgem our centre halves have been individually or as a pair directyly responsible for quite a few goals this season..kolarov and ottomendi due to positioning and stones fir to givingvthe ball away and being too light weight.

The defensive performances this season have been a shambles
You seem to forget Kompany too is culpable in that accusation. His lack of interest on Southampton's goal was pretty telling.

I don't think Pep thinks Kompany is as good as most fans do. Which is normal. Most fans still view Komps through the prism of What He has accomplished while Pep simply views it from what he currently does.

I. Won't lie to you, I haven't seen anything special from Kompany in 3 years. People bend over backwards to ascribe overall performances to him which is normal as they do it with many of our other greats too.

But a blockbuster performance from him I haven't seen in a while. The best defensive performances I've seen in the last 3 years have all come from Otamendi Zab or Sagna. And this season maybe 1 from Kolarov.

Komps at best has been decent in his appearances the last few years. Hence why people ascribe team calmness, confidence, belief and all these other unquantifiable characteristics to him, because its hard to point at any great individual performance.

And also they sometimes ascribe a win or a clean sheet to his presence. Its all fine and good, but nothing Komps has done recently suggests he is any better than the other 3 CBs. Pep on the other hand seems to think he might be worse based on his actions.

Either way I think he is at about the same e level.

In terms of specifics:
He is probably the best header of the ball
He is probably the weakest passer of the bunch.
Definitely the weakest carrying the ball forward.
Not as good as Ota at either tackling or intercepting, but likely better than the others.
His tactical positioning has been lauded here often, I'm not so sure it is justified.
But lets assume it is true that he is the best at defensive positioning. He is clearly the worst at positioning when we are in possession.

So there are advantages and flaws to his inclusion in games.
