So impressed with the Toranado! I’ve got this coming tomorrow in 2 tone sunburst
Good advice mate, and thats the advice I always gave my students. How do folks!... Ah, a guitar thread...(again) Since the last one, I've acquired a cheap Yamaha acoustic, nowt to write home about. An Ovation acoustic, no idea what model, excellent guitar. A Cort Les Paul, black, plays and sounds like a dream, excellent value. A Pod XT LIVE multi effects unit. Still got my beautiful Purple 1994 PRS Bolt On and my Fender Deluxe 112 amp. Advice on buying- as has been mentioned, buy used and buy something decent...Steer clear of any marked Stagg. Cort make some fantastic guitars at a affordable price if you insist on buying new....And remember, if you are buying from a small local music shop, they are always open for a haggle...I got a grand knocked off my PRS and they threw in a stand, two pro cables, pack of strings, and a mitt full of pleckies....Then again, I got treated like a god (nowt to do with playing ability or fame, just the amount I was spending) when I bought it from Sounds Great in Heald Green...Oh yeah, they also threw in a free service for whenever I needed it. I once got £350 knocked off a vintage Gordon Smith...That was a real snip. If anyone needs a service, I recommend Ric from Marvel guitars in Altrincham/Sale. Great bloke, reasonable price, knows his shit.
Cort make guitars to suit all pockets. I learned of them from one of my favourite guitarists, John Mitchell. He used them in It Bites. Before my PRS I had a Mexican Strat....It was the first "prestige" guitar I ever bought...It was nearly a grand, a good 700 quid more than I ever spent....It was utter shite. Wouldn't stay in tune if I hit the wang bar, which is what I bought it for so I could EVH the shit out of it..I was scared to touch it. The guitar tech we had had to glue the saddle screws because they were baggy and kept wriggling loose. It got stolen so had to get a new one quick, Enter the PRS CE....I swear, it never goes out of tune. I had back probs a while back and couldn't walk for three years, it sat under my bed all that time....When I got it out again, you've guessed it...It was still in tune. Get what you pay for I suppose...Wish I could afford to buy another...The SE PRS is not a patch on the real thing.Good advice mate, and thats the advice I always gave my students.
USA Fenders, PRS, Gibsons, Ricks etc are like currency, buy second hand and if you wish to sell years down the track you get your money back or maybe even a profit. Plus you get the pleasure and prestige of playing a top class guitar.
My main guitar is a Gibson 345. A guitar I absolutely love and would never sell unless destitute. Its like a Stradivarius !
Ive thought about a PRS and looked at a few half price second hand USA ones.
Cort are decent guitars for beginners, as are Squiers and Yamaha.
I wouldnt even bother looking at a SE, its a CE I'm interested in. I've looked at 4 locally all second hand, great guitars.Cort make guitars to suit all pockets. That is exactly how it was with me...Tried near enough every guitar in the shop, had dosh, had absolutely no intention of spending anywhere near the amount I did. To be honest, it was more an exercise in seeing how the other half lives when I took it off the wall...I sat and went into another world with it...I battered the shit out of it, it just begged to be played....Next thing I knew I was a few grand lighter....It pissed all over anything else in the shop, gibbos, fenders the lot. The only draw back with it is if you snap a string..it goes to rat shit tuning wise and you can't wing it...Hence buying the Cort as a back up. Not sure if the later models corrected this. Stringing it up takes bit of getting used to as well..The tuners have a quick release mechanism which is great for taking them off, but re stringing takes a bit of getting used to because you have to put them on under tension because they should be within a quarter turn of being in tune when they are on, meaning that you don't have to wind them onto a string post like normal...If that makes sense..The string is gripped in place by a cam on the post.I wouldnt even bother looking at a SE, its a CE I'm interested in. They just feel like quality, like everything from the woods down to the tuners and PU's.
I will get one this year. Just has to feel like its mine when I try it out.
I know what you mean. There is nothing like picking up a guitar made from superb wood, Mahogany, Fine grain Alder etc and fitted with the best quality hardware. Now I really want that PRS :)That is exactly how it was with me...Tried near enough every guitar in the shop, had dosh, had absolutely no intention of spending anywhere near the amount I did.
