Guitar Thread

I can hold me own in an EADGBE scenario....little bit wary of other tunings...a la Keef ...be like starting all over again no?...chord shapes / scales etc?
Open G is pretty easy to play with to be fair - even just barring on a few different frets and you sound like the Stones.

But I kind of get your hesitance, I can quite think my through other tunings until I've actually had a go at playing in it (if that makes any sense)...........

I own 3 guitars, bought my first one in the early 80's, still can't play. Pretty disgusted with myself really. I learn a few tunes and then don't practice for years and forget it all, one of my biggest regrets in life that I'll probably carry with me to the grave.
i feel your pain

That's the reason I don't play much. I had the electric out with the amplifier but the kids kept playing with the volume and all the other knobs and buttons. When I play acoustic usually they want to play too and it's pointless!
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of times where they just end up getting cross at me for drowning out the TV or the like. However, sometimes it's nice to just have it to hand if they are playing nicely or eating their tea etc and I serenade them..............and then get shouted at ;-)

I'm about to push the button on a new one. I've come to accept my 1996 Fender is warping and is beyond economic repair.

One of these is for sale locally for a decent price in new condition (epiphone J-200). Its the base version but a lot of guitar for the money. anyone played one?

No but I'm intrigued to know what you make of it;-)

I really like the anesthetics of the J-200 a really bonnie guitar.

If you are looking for a comparable alternative, the Yamaha's are brilliant and great for the money.

There's something about the almost 'matte' neck on them that works really well for me...........

Gibson Les Paul Tribute - changed neck, weight and a bit of the mechanics I believe.

A worthy guitar in its on right, or if you want an LP just push the boat out for the Standard?
