There is no good and bad playing to a point mate - you can be playing a 3 chord riff that is creating or contributing to some great music. Keep working on that and you will real the rewards.Cheers Bill, I also have a yamaha electro acoustic which I play a lot. I can play a few tunes, but I'm not brilliant.
I can strum, know a few chords, I've written a few songs, but it's just for me, there's no way I'd play in front of someone.
Cheers Bill, always appreciate your posts bud.
You strum or pick the stringsHow does it play?
Who's got the Clint Eastwood Gran Torino clip.........? ;-)You strum or pick the strings
Hahaha I think you'll find Pat Metheny playing to a few hundred dedicated fans, not 3, no notes will mean nothing to his fans. There is no good and bad playing to a point mate - you can be playing a 3 chord riff that is creating or contributing to some great music. Conversely, someone can be setting the fret board on fire with speed and technical brilliance and it does nothing for the player or listening audience (apologies @Bill Walker ;-) ).
What's that saying about rock stars playing 3 chords to 10,000 people whilst the jazz sage plays 10,000 notes to an audience of 3 or similar?
Finding your 'place' and playing for enjoyment I find pivotal and people bring different thoughts and styles to the table.
We can't can't all be Hendrix (I still play lead like a dog so I don't really bother with it any more), but then again, we all don't need to be either.
Mantra for the day - it's ok not be great, but it's great to be ok-ish (or something a bit more meaningful)..........
:-)
I was only being flippant to get my point across Billy.Hahaha I think you'll find Pat Metheny playing to a few hundred dedicated fans, not 3, no notes will mean nothing to his fans.
Alongside his technical brilliance is real musical taste and beauty.
Many Rock God's are fans of Pat Metheny.
I like quite a few 3 and 4 chord songs also.
C Am. F G. (a 1 6 4 5 progression)
There's a hundred songs.
Love is all around
Stand by me
Octopus Garden
And many more..
Well yes, I can't play The Clap by Steve Howe ...and I cant play this by Tommy Emmanuel, complete mastery of the guitar.I was only being flippant to get my point across Billy.
As with pretty much everything in life we all have different approaches and belief's towards guitar and music.
As a bit of an aside, have you come up against that you couldn't play?
I'm thinking of having another bash at Won't go back again by The Mac - finger picking above my station that one.
Fucking great son though.............

If only I could.Fucking hell - He can play a bit.
He's now my mind's eye version of what you look and play like Bill.......... :-)
If only I could.
One good party piece I learned was Drag Racer.
The snooker theme tune.
Its not that hard to play.
Great stuff that mate - wonderful effort.
I can certainly recommend the FG720S and the LL6 range. Have a lovely almost matte(?) feel to the neck so your hand doesn't stick and lovely to play.
Extremely good value in my eyes............
Top stuff. Thanking you! Been on the Justin Guitar for lessons and Paul Davids for... well... everything really. He's very informative.Youtube is the best place for people to follow...but find one you like and stick with it...or you end up with dozens of tutorial videos and no time to actually play :-)
Ive been playing for years and i still enjoy watching/learning from these:
Pics or it didnt happenRecently got a bonus from work so spent part of it on a Watkins Hi-Lo Vibrato/Rapier from the mid-60s.
It's scratched up to fuck and the paintwork is flaking on the back but the sound is lovely. Think the B-string is a little temperamental but it should be fine after a few plays.
Have added it to the collection, so it now sits along my Strat and Tele and my £60 Gear4Music nylon string acoustic, and a cheap knock-off bass I bought for £8 off eBay.
What is with the fret below the nut? that looks very odd to me.
Think that's the "hi-lo" part of the system. They don't seem to change much. May head down to the local guitar shop and see what he can do.Nice....maybe a refret and a new nut...will be right as rain :-)
Whats the red and black switch beside the pots?
