Spot on.......Benny was a top lad.
Must admit, although I knew he had family/home problems all those years ago I didnt realise to what extent.
Hadn't seen Benny for years until he turned up at Blackpool away last season.

Moorsideblue - is it Moorside in Oldham you are from? If so, you mentioned earlier in the thread that your dad knew Benny well and I'm wondering if either of the couple of the lads I knew from back then who moved up to Moorside (from Hollins) a few years ago is your dad

Just finished the book too. Interesting read especially for people that travelled away in the eighties and were caught up/involved in violence. It really is a case of having to be there to appreciate what it was like. Always found Benny a sound lad and can see how he became 'addicted' to football violence considering his upbringing.
Regarding the Swansea match, that is the first time I have seen that video and recognise a couple of faces. We (about 15 of us who had got the service train there) were escorted around the pitch a couple of minutes later having been sussed out when celebrating the goal in the big, (old) Kippax style stand at The Vetch Field.
Credit to Benny for writing the book and good luck with it.

For those of us without personal knowledge of a lot of the well-known City characters does anyone know personally the following "legends":-

i- Bob Carolgees' lookalike hanging off the fence at Villa Park when Paul Power scored in 1981?

ii- Big lad with specs and a flat top shaved off at sides who kept being shown on the Kippax after every goal in the 5-1 in 1989?

So did Sully's book and probably the other two City hoolie porn books....

What is ''50,000 Dexies''??

When, 'Come On Eileen', gets stuck on the jukebox and repeats endlessly until someone is driven to the edge ripping the entire machine from the wall and plunging it into a bath filled with tepid Horlicks.

ii - he was in the North Stand, not the Kippax!

ha ha feckin brill,i can picture these 2 in my head right now,him in the north stand looked a bit like morrisey, and i must have been stood somewhere near bob carolgees that day, anyone notice the FLICKER haircuts that day or any star or slazzy jumpers,i had my pods on wearing mi fred perry and my slazzy and mi straight leg fruit of loom jeans, happy days.

Here's another one: how about at Bradford in 1989 - wasn't there some bloke who looked a bit like (Ronald McDonald/Gary Megson/Rita Fairclough) with a big ginger 'tache prominent in the celebrations?
