Harry Dowd/Ken Mulhearn

Another one I forgot, Dave Bacuzzi, a decent player signed from Arsenal, I remember his debut in 1964 in a 6–0 win against Leyton Orient.

It was funny how many kids of my age ... we'd all be between 10 and 12 when he joined ... used to call him Dave Bazucci, probably because they had heard the word bazooka and had only read his name when he signed. No Sky Sports to help with the pronunciation in those days :)

Probably :)

I was just a kid (10ish) at the time and can remember thinking Harry was the better of the two...but have no idea why and, in any case, both were considered 'gods ' to me, as was anyone in a sky blue shirt...or green, in their case...if you know what I mean :)

I was in Withington Hospital for 8 weeks with a broken left peg in 1968 when, low and behold, one Ken Mulhearn had a private room at the end of my ward following a knee op. Nurses got wind I was a Blue and duly wheeled me in to meet him one day. Gobsmacked. Even more so when Stan Horne, Buzzer and Tony Book walked in while I was there. I sat quietly in the corner while they chatted, joked and just seemed to take the piss out of him for 30 mins. Happy days.

I can remember when Joe Corrigan was breaking into the team, that Harry Dowd looked the better keeper. However Joe seemed to keep more clean sheets because he could deal with crosses.

The only problem with Harry was he lacked height.

Alan Ogley had the match of his life away at Southampton when City lost 1-0. He made a string of miraculous saves. The home supporters were so impressed that they put a picture of him up in their club at the Dell.

I remember Ron Healey playing in 71 v Chelsea in the semi final of the ECWC due to Corrigan being injured.Another keeper who seemed so small.
