I've watched football for over 60 years and have never seen a player who holds onto the ball for (far) too long, and 'plays for the foul' as much as Jack Grealish.
It's not necessarily cheating, but it's petty and definitely slows the game down. Either he plays that way intentionally, or it's a bad habit he's carried from his childhood playing days. I suspect the latter.
When watching Villa games, I've often thought that his actions have caused promising moves to break down rather than put Villa in a good position.
I honestly don't think Pep or any other coach will be able to coach probably deeply ingrained habits out of him. His 'stop/start' style of play has worked for him at every level, and (while it's only based on what I've seen and heard on the media) he seems to have an air of arrogant self-confidence about him.

He's a maverick, and as such, I think he may find it hard to adapt to our more disciplined style of play.

Do we want to risk signing another Rodney Marsh? Only time will tell... Good luck to the lad whatever the outcome.

Fair. Like I’ve said, I have only ever seen him get smashed when he has the ball, I’m sure he’ll play for the foul just like any other play would do when there’s no alternative. I understand he’s a bit marmite, my brother doesn’t like him for some of the reasons you’ve stated. I also think to be a pro you have to have a self confidence/arrogance about you.

He’s a player who would genuinely get me off my seat when I’m at the Etihad just like countless players have over the years. He’s probably a bit raw and not the finished article but I’d expect a coach like Pep to get the best parts out of him and bin the shit parts. Either way I think he’s a very good player whether he signs or not.

maybe neymar/mbappe, but that's questionable

griezmann, coutinho, dembele, felix, pogba, hazard, wouldn't say any of those came close to justifying the price

Unless he gets injured i just can't see how he won't smash a fuck ton of goals in over several seasons. People might not want him but he will still deliver.

I don’t read the Sun and I don’t believe the figures bandied around, I like to think that City wouldn’t pay that amount of money. My comment is aimed not at people who dispute the figures but at people who come out with comments such as it’s not our money so why should we care how much we spend and people desperate for signings irrespective of cost and long term implications based around wages etc. I want the squad to improve as much as anybody but not at any cost and I will be disappointed but not too down hearted if new signings don’t come in.
