Harry Kane

When pep called Spurs the “Harry Kane team” that was the start of the legal tapping up process (public praise not secret meetings). October 2017.
Oh yes, Pep started a very elaborate plan to sign a striker four years ago with a comment in a press conference. Makes sense

Your confidence gives me confidence. I feel like we’ve been crying out got a 9 forever now. I know how successful the false 9 was last season but it’s not a long term solution.

I’d like Kane sooner rather than later with the way the fixtures have fallen too!

I think we miss a 9 so much but miss the flexibility in formation it gives us.

I get the feeling that if Kane landed (sorry when he lands just in time for the Arsenal game) he will make such a difference and will slot into the fluidity of our game and high press much better than anyone can imagine.

This of course is a compilation of cliches. Dortmund isn’t the only team capable of giving Bayern a title challenge. Right now no team can, but last season they came very close to not finishing in the CL zone. And Leipzig were far better. Dortmund beat a better team in the final and he scored twice. Spurs faced us in the final. We were the better team, yes, but we won 1-0 with a goal by Laporte. I’m not buying that the so-called greatest Premier League striker couldn’t have done anything on that game. And that’s just one example. I’m also tired of debating other leagues with some English fans with a certain attitude. Your reasoning could very easily also imply that Lewandowski is a fraud since he only shined for German teams. Haaland has faced teams from several leagues including scoring against Liverpool at Anfield, and not even for Dortmund, but for Salzburg. I could also say: let’s see if Vardy would have done as well in a different league. But that’s a weak point and I won’t make it.
Yet again, you've pointed out the difference of teams they've played for. Also no one calls Harry the greatest Prem striker, but he is Prem's best striker right now, has been for a few seasons. To undermine that is just ignorance. His records speak for himself, and the fact that Pep wants him so badly is enough indication of how highly he's rated by professionals. You're strawmanning a bit here by listing Lewa, totally not the point, and Lewandowski is world class.

Vardy's level is at Leicester, and he's not even in the conversation. We can definitely discuss how Prem is the most competitive league and the ultimate test for any player. Fwiw, Haaland couldn't do anything when he played us, so not sure where your argument of Kane doing nothing against us holds up, we're just that good. The whole point is to say he isn't generational neither is he world class, he's a very good striker still, but to put him on levels of Aguero, Kane, Suarez, Lewa is just jokes. He's below, I'd say well below. In future obviously, has the potential to become great, reach newer heights, but till he does that I'd avoid putting massive labels on him.

Incredible players tend to generate an incredible amounts of hype. I wasn't talking Haaland down when I said he was hyped.

I also think it is worth baring in mind guys like Raiola want their clients to be linked with mega-moves every year whether they move or not. Keeps their profile very high. That is also the sort of hype I'm talking about.
The most hyped player the last 12 months has been Jack Grealish and now we will get to see if it was deserved.

He didn’t pull up trees against us did he? One opportunity and Dias matched him.
It’s a bit simplistic to think that just because he’s doing great now that anyone else not scoring quite so many won’t be as good or potentially better.
What a player drogba was for Chelsea and how well suited to the league. He started his career quite slowly.

I'm sure Haaland will go on to be an amazing player. But there'll be others and the truth is football is a team game. One player will not win you everything. Hell, Messi's few years at Barcelona are proof of that.

I wonder about any post Brexit changes and it maybe that it won’t make as big a difference as people imagine.

I think the most likely outcome is that EU players will be treated as the same as non EU players and quotas will not be altered that much.

This has big implications for all but the top half of the Premier League because players like Mahrez wouldn’t be granted a permit. So clever clubs like Brentford will spot the bargain of the Century but won’t be able to buy him anymore.

However there is a points system which overrides the fact that a player fails the initial test one of which is wages. If you believe in a prospect and pay him enough in relation to the rest of the squad he will still have a good chance of getting a permit.

City also have a very big advantage and it’s not just hoarding expensive British players or a great Academy. Where City would have struggled is that previously they could sign a great EU talent at 16 but, as a result of Brexit, now it’s 18 giving other European clubs 2 years extra to snap them up. City use the CFG to stop this. They buy youngsters and farm them out to other CFG clubs. If the player is any good we can buy them once they are over 18 and they have had time to develop and increase the work permit points.

If the FA insist on a more stringent quota the PL will object. If the FA pushed it they would be idiots because the current crop of young talent that we have now is because of the Academy systems the English clubs have now and the fact that they get to train and play with the best in the World not because we need to dumb down standards creating quantity over quality. The PL also brings in a lot of money for the Goverment who will not be looking to penalise businesses particularly now.

Whatever happens City are in the best position to adapt. I think it’s more likely that the players we need right now just happen to be English.

I agree totally. I've felt all summer it's a mouth watering prospect adding him to this collection of players with Pep as the manager and the style in which we play.

Air drop Kane into the CL final game and I think we see a TOTALLY different game from City regardless of who is playing in the 6.

Yesterday again proved why we need a striker.
With Sergio barely featuring last season we've played a lot of the last 2 seasons with no striker.
If we don't get one in we are going to continue to lose close games.
Personally the greater requirement this season was a striker and this should have been prioritised instead of gambling on a 100m midfielder.
