Heartburn

Likewise, nobody advised me possible side effects but am only on them short term
Its well over 3 years for me. As usual no one ever reviews your medicine, you are just a number.
I do know I have a Hiatus Hernia which causes the problem but no one is arsed. I have little to zero belief* in GP's and the NHS in general, 'Just give him some tablets, he'll piss off then)

*and little respect.

NHS has really gone down the pan in recent years. I wouldn't say I have no respect, but, they seem to get as many things wrong as right. When it goes right, it's great. I've been more of a supporter than a critic over the years, but now I'm in my mid 60's I seem to come across patients frequently being misdiagnosed with one thing or the other. The worst case in point being my eldest sister who died last month aged 75, whose cancer was misdiagnosed. Thereafter, she deteriorated; became almost immobile over time, but was left to her own devices as she became delusional; fell whilst being unsupervised when she should have been on 24 hour care - in hospital - sustaining injuries which made her even less mobile. Eventually getting heart failure' on top of oedema due to immobility and COPD. My point is agreement about the NHS failings, which are the subject of complaints in my sister's case, because if we don't complain, the failings will definitely not be addressed.
Anyway, back on topic, she didn't have heartburn as far as I know, but, I have. I use my wife's omeprazole but after reading the thread, I think I'll stop and grin and bear it.

Treat don’t cure seems to be the way

My MIL had a Aortic aneurism, the Tameside hospital told her it wasn't urgent they would put her on the list, it burst 2 weeks later and she dropped dead.
My Dad had chest pains (he never went to a doctor in 40 years so it must've been painful) they told him it was probably indigestion. He died from a heart attack.
I agree with you Misty.

When I was 60 I took out medical insurance for me and the wife. I don't trust registrars (trainee doctors) in public hospitals, and they're the ones you mostly see, they're inexperienced and overworked.

Now if I have a problem I can see a specialist very quickly and importantly, I can choose which specialist.
It's money very well spent.

Tablets don't always treat, they simply get the patient off the list.
A neurologist, my second, decided I was suffering from migraine. This was despite him admitting that, never having suffered from them in my life it was highly unusual. It was also despite the first neurologist saying it wasn't migraine. He gave me some strong tablets. Wanker.
My 3rd neurologist decided he wasn't accepting my GP's referal as they hadn't provided any information. That was after I'd been on the waiting list for 12 months.
I'm now on my 4th, 13 months later. They don't know why I keep seeing different ones.

Sorry I'm moaning.

Sorry to hear that Bill. On here you will read the NHS is brilliant but underfunded. It's not on both accounts. It's shit and the money is wasted.

But back to cameras down your gob. Hopefully never again.

Had the endoscopy this morning. Wasn’t too bad and for doped up to the eyeballs. Barely remember it now.

Gastritis and some other ‘itis’ so time for strong ant acids. I honestly expected the worst so this is good news.

I guess mileage varies. Personally I’ve had excellent service all round.

But I have a few family and friend nightmare stories tho. My dad was fobbed odd with indigestion. Then one day was at the local tip and some guys saw him struggling so helped out and one pointed out it sounded like Angina. A few weeks later had some tests for heart issue and they didn’t even let him stand up. Next day quadruple bypass.

A family friend died a couple of years ago due to complications from esophogeal cancer and I’m 100% sure he would have been saved if his GP had come out to look at him. Kept fobbing him off with chemo pain and giving him morphine. Couldn’t even get a district nurse out to look. Ended up in hospital a a week later and the paramedics in the ambulance were disgusted. By then it was pretty much full sepsis and he died a few days later. I’d the GP had looked he would have spotted it and been able to get him treatment earlier.

Not sure what I have but in the last week or so I have woke up three times choking on stomach acid.
From looking around on the internet it sounds like acid reflux.
When it happens I wake up feeling like I am drowning, then it starts to burn.
I then spend the next few hours trying to cough stuff up off my chest.
