Hillsborough - The Search for Truth

66. Between 2.40 pm and 2.45 pm the crowd inside and outside the turnstile approach had swelled to over 5,000. At the head of the phalanx conditions had become intolerable. Those who got through were short
of breath and sweating profusely. Many complained to police officers on the concourse inside the turnstiles and asked them in forceful terms to do something. Exit gates A and B were being shaken. It was clear the crowd
could not pass through the turnstiles by 3 pm. Police Constable Buxton radioed from the Landrover to control asking that kick-off be postponed. The suggestion was acknowledged but rejected.

And talking of pricks .... how about an apology to one and all.

Time for those who were responsible for the cover up to be held accountable. For too long people have suffered and it has to be addressed.

On the ground... worth stressing that as far as the FA and other footballing authorities were concerned Hillsborough was one of football's elite venues in 1989. Two years earlier Simon Inglis wrote in his book "Football grounds Of Great Britain": "Hillsborough is a stadium, with all the grand connotations the term implies" and, specifically about the Leppings Lane,: "the view it provides is excellent, as are its facilities." He went on "Hillsborough has proved that a club can provide all the facilities a supporter wants".

It shows how low our expectations were - or how badly we were treated elsewhere - that we held this venue up as a model for quality and yet the venue is now clearly seen as inadaquate. I agree that it was inadaquate, and that shows how poorly the FA and others viewed facilities for fans back then. Safety wasn't the main issue back then (in fact I don't know how low it appeared).

Wonder if Boris Johnson will apologise for this?

Despite todays findings, scousers do still have a victim mentality regarding ANYTHING, no matter how small or trivial. Its in their blood.

I meant more specifically Johnson blaming the Liverpool fans for Hillsborough.

Bloody hell, that Alison McGovern just issued the most passinate statement I've ever seen delivered by a politician!

I'd love it, just love it, if someone brought him crashing back down to reality by bringing this up. The fact that he couldn't even be arsed to find out how many people actually died and instead just had a stab in the dark at 'more than 50' is appalling.

Whatever your view of the scouse stereotype, to hear 96 people died needlessly, to hear of those 26 could have even been saved, to hear the Police were at fault not the fans you can probably understand why feelings might run high.

Honestly, ycmiu!
