I put in a claim weeks ago for over £100 of opera tickets that were refused a refund on a section 75.
Still haven’t heard from them.
Same with a charge back for prepaid hold luggage with Easyjet. Not heard from the bank about that either.
Am going to up them to formal complaints today and refer it to the ombudsman if I still haven’t had a reply in two weeks.
I waited over a month to hear back from the Nat West. Probably nearer 6 weeks and that was the only contact they made with me. It was to confirm that my claim had been upheld. Strangely enough it had already been credited to my account 2 weeks before.

So does ATOL cover flight only bookings made through an agent? TravelUp FAQs say NOT if paid in full and tickets issued within 24 hours.

FAQs also states that any section 75 claim will fail due to them “breaking the link between credit card company and airline”

To complete the hattrick they also state IF people don’t accept credits or rebooking of a flight then they will charge (an as yet unspecified) admin fee!

Flight to Munich not due until 18th June for Euros (or not) so they won’t even talk to me yet but the flavour of the FAQs suggest a difficult fight for some or all the £650.
They may be right, this from the Which website on section 75 ...

Payments through an agent or third party
It's not unusual for a business taking payment to be acting as an agent for the actual supplier. In this circumstance, Section 75 may not apply and you may not be able to claim against the credit card provider.

A good example of this is when you buy concert tickets. If you buy direct from the venue, then Section 75 may apply if the cost is over £100. If you buy through a ticket agency, then it may not.

This is because the card provider may argue that as payment wasn't made directly to the supplier of the goods or service, Section 75 doesn't apply.

So where possible, make any credit card payment direct to the company actually supplying the goods or services.

It seems it is better to buy flight-only purchases direct with the airlines using a credit card and forget ATOL completely. What a scam. I hope you get your money back, you still have travel insurance and small claims court options. Check the Ts & Cs to see what they promise should a flight be cancelled.

You answered your own question.
Book a flight only with an airline and it is not ATOL covered.

That's usually the case but there can be exceptions. Up until last year Easyjet used to sell flight only that were ATOL protected but it looks like it has changed now. Always worth remembering that flight and car hire packages are often ATOL covered as well as flight and accommodation.

In summary, you should get an ATOL certificate straight after booking, so if not, then probably not covered.

I have flown for years with Easyjet.
Never had an ATOL certificate off them yet.If you book holidays through them or a car at the time of the flight it’s different.

Never understood why anyone would book a flight only with anyone other than an airline.

that advice from odd fellow also applies to PayPal too. Sec 75 does not apply to them or sage pay or any of the other third party ways of paying.

ahh on hold with P&o Cruises for 1 hour to try and make a change ffs. Trying to shift something for my parents from the Oct to 2022.

Had an email today to advise that check-in is open for my flight to Nice on 31st May!! So we're checked in!

I've got 3 flights (June) to Turkey and 1(July) to Prague. All in the balance, so to speak.
All booked l credit card and directly

Is there an advantage to this ? Genuinely interested.

Yes. Any consumer advice expert will say the same.
Of course if they actually take off you need to be on them.
I have 4 flights to Spain booked.

As long as you paid over £100 you are covered by sec 75 which makes the credit card company equally and separately responsible if anything goes wrong.

Simply put , if you cancel you might not got anything back. If you alter the dates you will pay a fee. If the carrier cancels you are entitled to a full refund .Or you can rebook to full value of cost.
The accommodation is a different matter.

I go out to my place in Spain so it is just flight and car for me.

Have you accommodation booked.
