I’ve stayed not far away in Koutouloufari, it’s in the hills behind Hersonissos, beautiful place full of charm & nice restaurants, very civilised & well worth a visit (especially in the evening) if you’re travelling in a couple, or with older kids. Hersonissos is a fair size (Gouves is quite small) with some decent beaches, a harbour, and all that goes with a big resort, it’s quite international & not crawling with Brits, obviously Malia & Stallis are further round the island if you want party central :) or there’s Star beach in Hersonissos

I've never done it but I believe the roads are much better and plenty of stops (aires?) for caravans and motorhomes.

Just booked a flight to Hawaii, 3 nights there in Waikiki then Royal Caribbean cruise back to Brisbane for 18 nights, stopping in Tahiti, Morea, and couple of places I've never heard off....place called New Zealand :)
